Mukkin

Generally small of stature and universally amphibious, Mukkin are adaptable humanoids who largely comform to tribal cultures. The largest portion of their population exists in Terra Nova, though recently sightings of Mukkin shoals have been reported in the waters of the Invium Ocean, off west coast of Kingdom of Il Paraonde, the White Cloud Republic, and Magocracy of Valsan . Mukkins are omnivorous, can breathe both salt and fresh water (though they seem to "prefer" salt water), and have sharp claws that tip their webbed fingers.   Multiple tribes of Mukkin exist, and each of them seem to have developed often related, but usually unique sets of vultural beliefs. They tend to follow physically strong leaders, though in certain tribes their leaders are spellcasters. In either case, leaders of mukkin tribes must use their powers to protect and lead their tribe, or they are quickly replaced by challengers to their power, usually through violent duels in front of their kin. Lazy or useless leaders do not often last long in mukkin tribes.   Known Mukkin tribes:   Blarglargle (The Beachkeepers): These mukkins are largely benign, more content to keep to themselves than to bother with outside forces. They soend most of their time underwater, but small settlements can be found on sandy beaches of Novae Terra. Not particularly strong, or aggressive, the Blarglargle protect themselves largely through their dependance on a breed of tidal magic users. The tidal shamans have an impressive control over water and ice, and use it to drive away larger aquatic predators, and the occasional land locked adversary.   Sluburlgurgle (The Shoalclackers): This is the largest, strongest and most influential tribe known on Terra Novae, with many territories claimed. They are however, terribly unorganized, and have been known to act without uniformity as a group. Different parties may raid a settlement that other Shoalclackers have agreed to leave alone. It is only when the chieftan speaks, that all Shoalclackers obey without question. These mukkin seem particuluarly adept at hit and run tactics involving bodies of water, retreating back beneath the waters surface before an effective defence can be mustered against them.   Grbrngn (The Great Hungry Ones): This group of mukkin are a dangerous group, who raid and steal for their chieftan. For those who can speak their garbled tongue, the mukkin of the Grbrngn tribe seem to only speak lucidly of something they call "the Hunger", and will commit any act to sate it. These depraved creatures have been known to commit cannabalism if no other prey can be found. They have been know to be distracted by tributes of food long enough for potential victims to escape, but accounts of such events make note of how frighteningly quickly the Grbrngn mukkins can consume large quantities of food.
