Kaijin is a name for a grouping of invasive species, usually of great size, which are universally destructive to the environments where they settle. A now outdated term once also referred to Saurs and Fomorian tainted creatures, but in recent years new information has been discovered in Terra Nova. Citizens in Port Harmony defeated a new Kaijin known as the Aethersaur, and it has been quantified that to qualify as a Kajin, the creature must have been influenced by a chaotic source of magic currently called aether magic. Creatures who are born affected by this magic seem to be universally destructive, and unable to reach a state of equilibrium with the surrounding ecosystem.
Some common or well known Kaijin (or groupings of Kajin) are as follows;
Dire - Dire Kaijin resemble giant forms of various animals, ranging up to 5 times the size of their normal counter part. Dire animals differ from "Giant Animals" in a key way, in that they have bone spikes, razored beaks, elongated fins covered in spurs or sabered teeth, or some other ossious protrusion that doubles as a natural weapon. Common Dire Kaijin take the forms of wolfs, bears, badgers, sharks, and chickens.
Dreadwings - An enormous Kaijin breed, Dreadwings have outgrown their wings and seem incapable of flight. Gigantic lizards with a pair of vestigial wings instead of forearms, and a forehead horn that is as sharp as a sword. They are highly territorial towards other Kaijin, even their own kind and have fought themselves almost to extinction. Last one known to exist was slain by Ambitus Apexbane.
Whistlore - A giant birdlike Kaijin that mimics the sounds of other Kaijin. It stands roughly 14ft tall and is roughly the same length from head to tail end.
Merodech - An Kaijin lost to time. Little is known about this creature and the last one known in existence was killed by the early leaders of Harshhorne, earning them the title of Merodech.
Obsidion - One of the largest desert Kaijin known to exist. It's black glass like hide is one of the toughest materials known, resistant to even the strongest blades and sharpest arrows.
Viden - Considered one of the most intelligent, cunning and ruthless Kaijin. The Viden hunt in packs and will stalk and watch their prey as if studying it sometimes for days at a time. They are cat like in appearance with a soft black fur coat. Their fangs are retractable and able to secrete a venom that can cause paralysis. They are known to secrete this venom onto their claws so they can quickly strike from hiding or while darting out so as not to put themselves in danger.
