Pixies Species in Erisdaire | World Anvil

Pixies

"Oh no- Tasha, get the sprayer! There's pixies in the shrubs again!"
Of the many creatures of faerie, the pixies of the Glimmerveil are among those who can dwell just fine in the Faeweald and Erisdaire. They merely lack a way of transporting themselves from one plane of existence to the other, though there are ample "cracks" which can be navigated. Physically, they can take many variations of form but always have some form of insectoid wings which keep them aloft. Their size is fairly standard, roughly able to sit on the palm of a human with space to spare, though pixie magic can alter this for a short time. Most interesting is their ability to "blink" from one place to another within ten feet, though they do need to see their destination to do so. Despite claims of "faecatchers" who use wrought iron cages, pixies are entirely capable of blinking through these devices. Only specific applications of magic can keep an area warded against intrusion, or prevent items from being 'taken' with a blink.

Pixies are intelligent, mischievous, and playful with a penchant for messing with people they deem "too serious". They are eager to take ordered things and inject a little chaos into matters, usually in ways which are not directly harmful. They'll move objects, usually when just out of sight as to leave people questioning 'when did that get there?' for a short time. Each culture tends to approach this differently, ranging from preventative to very strongly reactive. High elves manufacture wards which keep pixies from entering the boundary of an elven Faeweald settlement, even if carried by another unknowingly. Wild elves on Erisdaire often attempt to banish pixies back to the Faeweald before a permanent link can be made, contending they are invasive pests at best. Dwarves generally have an incredible dislike for these minor faeries, because pixie mischief can turn into days of lost work, treating a presence of pixies as an infestation which needs to be stamped out.
