Mor'zi
Mor’zi stands as a testament to resilience within the bleak Nevermore Expanse. Despite the ever-present watch of the Crimson Order, the predominantly human population has carved out a bountiful life amid the darkness. In every corner of the city, from the bustling market square to the quiet farms, there is an unbreakable spirit of determination.
Government
Mor’zi is the smallest city in the kingdom of Nephistrad. The city is ruled by House Richemot, the most powerful noble house in the city. Thanks to their Sanguis immortality, Mor’zi has never known another ruler since the kingdom drank from the Crimson Cup.
With a population size of just under 7,000, Mor’zi can appoint two senators to the Blood Court to assist the King of Forever. As the city ruler, House Richemot is represented by Annette Richemot. The second noble house has changed multiple times over the years between both House Sigrid and House Shorelight. Currently, House Sigrid maintains the second senate appointment and is represented by Gabriel Sigrid.
Industry & Trade
Along the banks of the Bay of Sorrows and the Great Divide, a fishing community haul in their nets while farmers tend to the fields with care. Mor’zi exports a great deal of food to the people of nevermore who don’t feed on blood, earning them great favor in the eye of the Blood Court.
Guilds and Factions
The Anglers
The Anglers are a fisherman’s guild, united to maintain the harbor and fair prices for their catches. At times, the Anglers struggle with acts by the Copperwind’s Resistance, such as a brief blockade that prevented ships from leaving the harbor. But mostly, the Anglers reluctantly cooperate to avoid being labeled a traitor by the people of nevermore.
Copperwind’s Resistance
Comprised of loyalists, concerned citizens and ex-militia, the resistance uses guerrilla tactics to undermine the authority of the Sanguis noble houses. This covert operation serves as a symbol to people of nevermore and while they’ve rustled a few feathers, city nobles believe they do not pose a significant threat to Nephistrad. Houses Richemot, Sigrid and Shorelight view the resistance as nothing more than pirates occupying the Bay of Sorrows and do their best to amplify this feeling with political propaganda.
Crimson Order
Thanks to their ties to the Scarlet Walker, most citizens in Nephistrad worship Evenneth, the Scarlet Walker Walker and are either Sanguis or strive to become one if they can afford it. The importance of blood is undeniable and by having faith in the Scarlet Walker, the populace can feel assured that the wheel of life will continue to turn. Members of the Crimson Order serve the mother of hematurgy and with her guidance, are responsible for the collection of the weekly Vida Culling blood tax. This responsibility gives the Crimson Order much political leeway and untold power in the region. It also serves as a reminder to the King of Forever that his rule is only allowed by a greater being.
History
The Lycan Wars
Following a rebellion that both wiped out House Ferand and annihilated the western city Nova Vaasi, the people of Nova Vaasi retreated into Raven’s Roost. As reported by spies of the Scarlet King, leaders of the famed rebellion made the ill-fated decision to become lycanthropes, gaining the courage from the traitorous offspring of Lord Ferand.
Looking to establish a presence on the outskirts of Nevermore, the rebellion would move south to claim the fortified town of Loric’s Stand. After a winter of war that saw much of the rebellion defeated, but with the creation of a new generation of werewolves, werebats and wererats, the remaining survivors scattered across nevermore.
Many returned to Raven’s Roost while a more ambitious pack fled east towards the Bay of Sorrows and Mor'zi. Led by Packleader Moonshadow, this pack hopes to reignite the flames of rebellion by offering the curse of lycanthropy to those unable to afford the monetary price of becoming Sanguis.
Notable People
Annette Richemot
Appointed Senator for the most powerful noble house in Mor’zi, Annette is known for throwing lavish parties and enjoying an extravagant lifestyle. An unmatched charisma has helped Annette remain as Mor’zi’s only ruler since becoming a Sanguis.
Captain Tavon Rotbeard
Once the Sanguis captain of Copperwind, a mighty warship in the Scarlet King’s navy, Captain Tavon is well known for having a change of heart and refusing to drink blood. This decision changed Captain Tavon into a Thrall, a ghoulish creature whose body slowly deteriorates.
With what remaining years he has left, Captain Tavon now leads the Copperwind’s Resistance, a small rebellion against the blood drinkers, specifically the Crimson Order.
Dorian Shorelight
Having served as the second senator before House Sigrid’s recent surge, Dorian Shorelight of House Shorelight has had a difficult time after being removed from the Blood Court. While none doubt House Shorelight’s allegiance to Nephistrad, it is widely accepted that Dorian will do whatever it takes to once again become a blood court senator.
Elvira Talis
A seasoned warrior known for taking pride in her duties as commander of the militia in Mor’zi, Elvira has since retired. As a Sanguis, this retirement comes not from growing old, and Elvira’s true reason for stepping down has never been announced. Rumors of her retirement are now a popular conversation in Mor'zi's taverns.
Gabriel Sigrid
The second appointed blood court senator, Gabriel Sigrid, is known for his strong arcane knowledge and skill in potion brewing. In fact, it was the popularity of Gabriel’s newly crafted nightshade potion with the citizens of nevermore that helped to elevate House Sigrid into their second-place position amongst the other noble houses.
Lysander Thorne
Arguably the most politically powerful Sanguis in Mor’zi, the Archpriest Lysander Thorne leads the Crimson Order and oversees the blood tax for the surrounding area. While most religious leaders are viewed as wise and compassionate, none mistakes Lysander for having compassion for anything other then the Scarlet Walker.
