Did Preservation Save More Than It Cost?

Many of Terra’s final decisions were made in the name of preservation—of knowledge, of culture, of possibility. Without those efforts, Erdia would not exist.
This thread invites ethical reflection on whether preservation, even when imperfect, ultimately justified the sacrifices it required.
Can we say, with confidence, that what was saved outweighed what was lost?
