Iambic Language

Iambic is the language natively spoken by the Bardonese people, and the official language of the Bardonese Commonwealth. Its name derives from the rhythm that many of its sentences carry when spoken.   Though a relatively minor language for much of history, Iambic became one of the most spoken languages on the planet with the rise of the Commonwealth and its campaign of expansion over the past few decades.

Common Phrases
“Com copro!” - “Eat shit!” Iambic’s equivalent to “Fuck you!”. For added offense, it can be intensified to “Com copro et mort!” (“Eat shit and die!”)   "Trium Nocti" - A polite euphemism for an age-old marital practice that predates the Commonwealth. If either half of a married pair found themselves with a case of wandering eyes, the object of their affection would often be invited to spend a night with both members of the couple. While it was rude to openly comment on such an arrangement, there was no stigma against the practice itself so long as it didn't become a regular occurrence. Literal translation: "Night of three".   “Turchi in Panni” - A rather vulgar expression of exasperation, shock, and general negative feeling. Roughly equivalent to “Son of a bitch” or “God dammit”. Literal translation: “Shit on a flatbread”   "Valde" - “Yes”, but specifically in the context of an order given. Carries a militaristic connotation even when used in a civilian context. Much in the way “Yes sir/yes ma’am” would carry the connotation in English.
