Kethyks
"Ran into what I thought was a riderless horse after the battle with the elves. Tried walking up to it. Then it picked up a bloody spear and nearly skewered me!"
- Infantryman after the battle of Mons Graville, northern Arthendain
To most, a kethyk looks almost indistinguishable from a horse. A careful observer though, would notice their sharp eyes, their narrower, shorter snouts, and their prehensile, flexible hooves and forelegs, which are nearly as dextrous as a humans.
Above all though, kethyks are intelligent: just a tad less than a typical human (though there are exceptions). Because of this, and their ability to speak telepathically, they have been adopted as valuable members of Lumeric society. Often hired as couriers, messengers, and as warsteeds, kethyk service commands a premium, and they are fully capable of earning a wage, living in well-appointed private stables, and carrying out rich lives. In particular the warriors of Talorne have perfected the elf-kethyk relationship. Their riders bond for life, and are capable of spectacular feats of horsemanship; shooting while standing on horseback, careening over spears, and dodging arrows, to name a few.
