The Shadowfell

A mythical otherworld of darkness and shadow. The Shadowfell appears in several ancient elven legends. In the more mundane of these tales, the hero of the legend must somehow travel into the Shadowfell to retrieve some object or discover some secret that is vital to his quest. A notable exception to this format is the story of Tulass who went there to find the spirit of his dead wife.

There are more recent stories (some as recently as the time of the New Empire) involving the Shadowfell. Some sages have theorised that the Shadowfell is real and is either the opposite side of Erdde, a shadow cast by Erdde on another world, or is another plane of existence entirely. Some sages believe that the spirits and souls of the dead go to the Shadowfell and slowly fade away into nothingness.

In some legends, the Raven Queen, one of the Old Gods was banished to or abandoned in the Shadowfell by Orcus during the First GodsWar. The mythical race of Elves known as the Shadar-Kai worship her there.
