Sir Gileon Martel

A knight from a cadet branch of the Martel family. Gileon offended the king and was exiled from the Kingdom of Martell.  He settled east of the Black River in Viltland.
When the Giants brought their armies down from the north to invade the Old Empire in The War of the Elves and the Giants, their initial assault came through Viltland.
A large part of that Giant army attempted to cross the Dessarin River at the Stone Bridge. Gileon, aided only by his faithful squire Stenzah, stood at the highest point of the bridge and held it against scores of the giants' greatest warriors. Gileon and Stenzah killed many, many giants. In the end, Gileon took a mortal wound and died. But the giant leader was so impressed with elf's valour that he allowed Stenzah to take Gileon's body and bury it. The giants retreated from the Stone Bridge and the crossed the Dessarin at another point before their invasion of the Empire.
