Huethea the Prophetess
Huethea was a young Wood Elf who experienced a number of prophetic visions in the final century of the Old Empire.
Huethea was born towards the end of the War of the Elves and the Giants in what is now the Imperial Reserve. She had her first prophetic vision as a child, and continued to have them until The Ruination. She came to prominence when the Empress Tamiel heard of her visions (and that some of them seemed to relate to the Imperial Family) and invited her to court. She remained at court in Tanurel through the reigns of Tamiel's successors Adruhil and Zariel.
Huethea's prophecies were sometimes straightforward, but often cryptic. She attracted many followers who looked for hidden meanings in her words. And she attracted just as many sceptics who believed that she was simply speaking nonsense...or that she was a pawn of sinister agents using her 'prophecies' for their own ends. Those in the latter group mostly suspected Abimelem, Archduke of Hatzinn, seen during the reigns of Tamiel and Adruhil as the real power behind the throne. It was suggested that Abimelem was publicising certain interpretations of Huethea's visions that damaged the Empress / Emperor while promoting his own interests. After Adruhil's death, the new Empress, Zariel moved to exert her power at the expense of her great uncle, who withdrew to Hatzinn. Huethea became something of a favourite of the new young empress. Possibly because of this, more of her premonitions appeared to concern the Empress herself - at least according to some interpretations.
Any account of the days and even weeks leading up The Ruination is inevitably confused and incomplete. Nevertheless, it is reasonably well attested that Huethea disappeared from court shortly before that event. It is therefore possible that she survived the Ruination and lived through The Anarchy and into the time of the New Empire.
