Avariel

A mythical race of winged Elves .
The word 'avariel' simply means "winged ones" in Eldrin, but their name in Old High Elvish - "aril-tel-quessir" or "chosen ones" reveals more about their supposed history.
According to old elven myths, the aril-tel-quessir were the noblest of all elves, chosen by Eyal himself to be his personal servants.
Uniquely among elves, the avariel had wings - often white like a swan's wings, but sometimes black, grey or even translucent. These wings were a gift from Eyal. The god also gave his servants magical powers, a superior intellect and enhanced physical attributes.
Ema challenged Eyal to single combat during the First GodsWar and in that single combat, Ema slew Eyal while the Avariel stood by and watched. With no god left to serve, and feeling despondent at the course of the Godswar, the Avariel withdrew from Ettrea and possibly from Erdde entirely.
