College of Tenebrimancy

Structure

Organized in a very loose way, the Tenebri college simply has a Head Master, like all of the other colleges. Other than that, they simply have tenured members, students and assistants.   Those who have finished their studies and have shown sufficient skills, tend to be offered a tenured spot at the college. Tenured members are expected to assist the college, either via supplying new research or as a teacher. In compensation, they earn a stable and for the city, fairly generous salary.   Those who can afford it and have enough skill can apply to study at the college. Students can spend however many years at the college as long as they pay their tuition. However, they can also get their diploma at any point if they show enough skill and pass the final exam. They only get three chances to pass this test. Students have to wait a year between each attempt at the final exam. Should they fail a third time, they cease being students and become assistants.   Assistants are in essence owned by the college. After the college spends time at least two years teaching them and the student still fails to learn what they need, the college takes them in possession. They are forced to move into the college campus and are expected to keep is clean and assist the tenured members in any way they need, be it to carry documents or as a test subject. They get a small allowance to live on, as they don't have to worry about clothes as they get uniforms and housing as they live on campus.

Culture

The college encourages ambition and strong will amongst its members. To support this, disputes within the college are settled through Magical Battle of Wills. While sabotage of other's experiment and research is strictly forbidden, anything else to advance your own position is encouraged. This has led to many of the competitive members to set up defences in their own offices.   Priding itself on competence, the culture within the college cannot accept failures, which is why it has its policy regarding three chances for the final exam. A policy which it doesn't share with the other colleges.

Public Agenda

The college is tasked with teaching Tenebrimancy to promising individuals. It's members also serve as private tutors for well off families.    Tenured members host classes for students who pay tuition to study at the college. During these classes, the students are taught advanced runes and circle crafting as they are expected to know the basics. They also serve as private tutors for those wealthy enough to be able to afford it. These tend to lead to the individual joining the college as students later when they are skilled enough.     It is also tasked with the study of the art, both to develop new uses and to better understand it.   Everything isn't learned about the art, so new research is always needed. Tenured members often spend their time trying to figure new uses for Tenebrimancy, or new ways of doing things already discovered.

Assets

The college have a major campus in Kalyon as well as smaller schools in Indrak, Ravael and Normani. They also share a test range outside Kalyon with the other colleges, where they do high risk testing, so as to not endanger the city.   Financially, most of the income is tuition fees. Though a portion is research grants from the state. These grants never come without strings, however. Mostly is in exchange for the services of the tenured mages at the college, but sometimes because research in a specific field is required.
