Transients

Transients are a race of sentient alien nanomachines that can rapidly consume matter and change their form at will.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Transients are composed of numerous nanomachines with different purposes:

• Molecula: Dissasemble matter into base components
• Refineries: Converts base components into useable parts
• Conveyors: Carry materials in between machines
• Replicants: Produce new nanomachines
• Neuropips: Act as neuron clusters to process information and sense their surroundings
• Signals: Release light and psionic energy

Genetics and Reproduction

Transients reproduce through consuming matter until reaching a critical mass of nanomachines; before then dividing into three distinct entities nearly identical to one another.

Growth Rate & Stages

The smallest possible form that a transient may hold composes of roughly 8 kilograms worth of material. Once a transient reaches a weight of 25 grams, it then reproduces htrough subdivision.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Transients can live in any place that there is matter to be consumed. Transients are capable of consuming all forms of matter to obtain nutrients and energy; however prefer organic and metallic matter the most. Transients have a keen sense of their environment, and take great care to maintain diversify their diets as to maintain their local environment.

Average Intelligence

Transients possess intelligence that is beyond humanoid. On average, they have far more neural processing units than humans have neurons. This grants them the psionic powers they need to control their bodies.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Transients are capable of sensing mundane and exotic radiation as well as vibration. They sense their surroundings through a combination of their own vibrations within gaseous media; and sense light and exotic radiation they emit which bounces off of surfaces.

Naming Traditions

Transients names are exclusive to using numbers; though transients can give themselves nicknames if they are so inclined. Transient numbers are always 100-digit strings, and are seemingly random.

History

Transients were found within an extra solar, elongated asteroid drifting through the solar system by a minor named Enrico Daumos; and soon came into the possession of the FTS' Xenotechnology Research Board.

Common Myths and Legends

It is believed that Transients, at least the ones found within a single pod, are a failed Von Neumann probe sent by the Arr'kai to catalog the galaxy. Somehow, they gained sapience and managed to survive for potentially billions of years within the void of space; hibernating within a derelict pod.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most transients see themselves as captives or slaves to the human race; as their existence revolves around performing various tests within high-security facilities. Those that escape usually live their lives in isolation, preferring to simply stay away from humans and be free rather than take revenge.
