Often times, one must have an 8-Year degree in exotics engineering, though going the extra mile for a 10 or 12 year degree drastically improves one's chances of being hired. Years of practical work experience around exotic machines is often required at most businesses. A Class 2 Materials License is legally required to operate exotic enhancement machinery.
Career Progression
It is possible to enter this profession right away with no prior experience, however it is most common for individuals of lower positions within the same area of a company to be promoted once they have obtained their licensing and finished their education.
Payment & Reimbursement
Exotic Enhancement specialists can usually expect a salary of nearly 250,000 Credits per year. (Equivalent to nearly 2.5 million USD.) This is due to the truly high demand of the materials they produce. Often times, the salary of this position is paid for within the first month of the year.
Other Benefits
Filling an important role within the company often grants you connections to the higher ups of that company, opening the door for future promotions and a host of other benefits. Along with this are standard benefits such as health insurance.
Perception
Purpose
The exotic enhancement specialists makes the luxurious lifestyle that most Terrans on the core worlds enjoy a possibility. They oversee the production process and operate the machinery that produces insanely high-value exotic materials.
Social Status
This job is prized by many due to its very, very high pay and host of social benefits.
Demographics
Less than .01% of the entire population possesses this job due to the large amount of overhead work one needs to fulfill before most companies even consider them for the position, and simply due to the fact that an infinite number of these jobs do not exist.
Operations
Tools
The primary tool that one utilizes is the Exotic Enhancement machine itself. Operating this device usually involves keeping a close eye on its various sensory instruments and loading preset configurations for different materials to be enhanced.
Materials
This job is one of the few that a civilian may possess that involves working directly with antimatter, with the other notable job being an antimatter reactor technician. While the amount of antimatter one works with in a given day is nowhere near enough to cause nuclear-explosion levels of disaster, neglect and improper use of one's tools could cause the operator and anyone around them to be vaporized. It's for this reason that a Class 2 Materials license is required for this job.
Workplace
The workplace of an EES is within a specialized building specifically designed for the exotic enhancer machinery. It consists of a large central room that contains the exotic enhancement equipment, an armored warehouse like room full of secured containers which store antimatter, a receiving room for materials to be processed then shipped off, and some general rooms like a lounge, offices, bathrooms, front desk, etc.
Dangers & Hazards
Due to working with antimatter, the rare possibility of equipment failing and antimatter breaching containment is always a risk. However, there have only been two workplace related incidents regarding antimatter in this profession, neither of which were as a result of equipment failure, but instead user error.
