Traits of Harmony
The Traits of Harmony are a set of specific ethical standards in social behavior, attributes, and morality that were created by Equinox for the race of Men in the 520 years between 352 and 872 of the Age of Inception. The method Equinox chose to provide these traits to them was to live among his people as thirty-nine (thirteen for each tribe) separate avatars -- people who were ordinary in most ways but who demonstrated, by a living example, a paragon of a particular trait. These "Champions of Harmony" were revered within their culture, ever remembered by successive generations, as those who formed the standard of ethics for the race of Men.

This is not to say that every Man behaves in accordance with these traits -- far from it. Many choose to take on opposing traits, though this is socially frowned upon. Also, Men living in the galactic colonies are somewhat less likely to follow these ethics, especially since the various interstellar factions are split along tribal lines, making unity difficult. On Equus, however, Men are far more likely to adopt these ethics.
Exhibiting a trait of Harmony is favorably viewed among the cultures of Men, though there are exceptional individuals who excel at one or more of these traits. Such people are said to possess a "Virtue of Harmony". When someone has a particular trait in excess of 99% of the rest of the population, this is known as a Virtue. Roughly one third of mortals possess at least one Virtue of Harmony.
The Traits of Harmony are a critical ingredient in producing the Force of Harmony. When Men of all three tribes exhibit some of these traits together, in unity, this type of energy is produced.
