Aris expands her division and begins magical experimentation on a wider pool of subjects.

With Ione's success, Jenni decides it's time for the next phase and instructs Aris to gather more subjects and change their innate magic into fighting skills the Resistance can use.   Aris is skilled at picking subjects whose disappearance won't be noticed, and she is often successful in the procedures themselves. Her subjects do not survive long, which pains her. Often, when they deteriorate, she convinces Jenni to allow her to care for them until they die naturally.   Meanwhile, Nerissa is charged with training the new living offensive weapons. She often seeks Ione's advice on how to get through to them.
