Augur

The First, Beast of Light Augur

One of the Six, Augur is an embodiment of Light created by Camael. Its body is made up mostly of pure energy that manifests like true light, causing it to glow and shine like a bright torch no matter what the conditions are around it. Its manifestation comes in two forms: a ball of formless energy, and a quadrupedal beast-like creature that almost seems to exude the righteous fury of a mighty paladin. While it may have a voice, Augur does not 'speak' with a verbal component - instead, its voice is psychically transferred into the creature's mind. When it manifests in its quadrupedal form, it appears as a Colossal wolf that seems to tower over even the tallest creatures on the planet. Its howl can pierce the clouded sky, sending the sun's light back down to it. Augur is the god that represents Light just as much as it represents heroics and the heroes that perform them. Augur acts as the Emperyal Lord of the Positive Energy Plane.

Tenets of Faith

Resolve: Make a plan. When you plan, you have a goal in mind and a place to go. Each step forward is guided by this goal and has the might of a thousand soldiers behind it. Steel yourself for the challenges you may face, and the obstacles you may overcome, and never cease your eternal march toward the highest reaches of your dream. Your resolve must be as endless as your might.   Heroism: Be the hero that is needed, not the one that is wanted. A true hero is judged not by the many but by the witnesses and the ones who feel your wake. Each step you take forward must exude the confidence of a hero - bold steps forward that break the mold and shatter the false dreams of prophets. In the eyes of the gods, your heroism will be remembered eternally.   Charisma: A hero is made up not only of their deeds, but of their charisma in handling others about them. When you speak you must make others listen; when you walk, others must follow in your footsteps; when you act, inspire others to act with you. As a hero, you are responsible for linking the arms of the masses.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Augur was the first of the Six to be birthed from the Bellowing Summit, erupting in a column of divine fire and light. With a howl of might, good and heroism were instilled into mankind for the first time - where before their intentions were misguided, now they had a unified cause to lead them. After his howl to instill the people Augur made its way to the Positive Energy Plane, instilling itself as the ruler there and beginning to reshape the plane from its natural shapeless form to one of a large, sprawling metropolis in which good creatures can live comfortably. Accommodations exist for each type of creature that could ever stay there, and the city reshapes to accommodate each new creature. Due to the ever-expanding nature of the Positive Energy Plane this city, now named Reflecia, there is an infinite space for life both new and old. Within Reflecia, there exists only one section of wilderness: The Wildlands. This section exists outside of Augur's purview. Augur took control over the Cosmic Fire that lies in the center of this plane, using their powers together to ensure that good souls arrive at their proper destinations without fail. As the god of heroes, Augur sided with Archon during the The Fall and held off an evil pantheon of demigods lead by Orcus, preventing them from asserting their influence over the Empire during its formative years. In the war between them, however, both himself and Orcus were dealt nearly-fatal blows that forced their avatar forms into recovery. Augur, forced to join with the Cosmic Fire in order to heal, has seen his influence over the Material Plane dwindle in recent decades. While he can still create projections of himself in order to interface with the people of Epposia, these projections have even smaller fractions of his power than would otherwise be given - barely enough to create a single miracle. While Augur still seeks to do good, its diminished power has also lead to the diminished heroism in the world. Even his presence in the Gardland house, the one house within the Empire whose faith never wavered, has slowly diminished as the generations have passed. Now he has but a single shrine on their estate, one that is left dusty and unused. While still worshiped by the people at large, such dedicated faith no longer exists for him and temples created in his name are purely to obtain his blessing - often for weddings and to ward off undead.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Augur brought heroism to the world, and embodied it. It was the first creature to ever so much as harness the Cosmic Fire to obtain true godhood, rather than an imitation such as what might be normal for an Emperyal Lord, and used that good across the planes to rout out devils and demons alike to force them back into their planes. While these planes are not sealed, Augur's Light permeates the barrier between planes and makes it hazardous for creatures of this sort to travel them. Augur was also the only one of the Six to so much as stand a chance against Orcus in his rise to claim Epposia during The Fall; while its siblings took the fight against the demigods that sided with Orcus and granted him a fraction of their power, Augur took Orcus directly. The two of them were locked in combat for a decade before each made a decisive blow to the other, forcing Orcus to disperse his avatar lest he risk a worse fate. Augur, still wounded, hunted Orcus until it could no longer - its avatar perished somewhere in the Astral Sea, forcing its divinity back from whence it came. The corpse of Augur still rests there somewhere, one festering wound ever-present along its belly.

Failures & Embarrassments

Augur considers only two things to be failures since its creation: the oppression of beastmen, and Orcus continuing to live. These laments are the reason any part of Reflecia have fallen out of its control. Even now, it sends projections of itself to seek out Orcus and his followers in the hopes that it can instill some lucky hero with the power to slay the Prince of Undeath and finally cleanse the Material Plane of his influence. Unfortunately, its search has been fruitless and with each projection it sends more of its power wanes. Those who guard the inner sanctum have urged it to rest and recover, to seek out Orcus only once it has fully healed. Augur will not listen, for it sees its cause as worth its own life.

Intellectual Characteristics

Augur is the most wise of the Six, often spending time with the Cosmic Fire in quiet meditation on the nature of life and on who the next hero to receive its blessing will be. Further, it spends most of its time now meditating in order to learn more of Orcus and his minions so that it can direct the creatures of good to destroy the Prince. Augur is patient with all creatures, listening to their stories in full before speaking its mind, and seeks to steer them onto the correct course. While not the being responsible for destiny as it is known, Augur is one of the few with the power to manipulate and manifest destiny to its ends and the ends of others.

Taboos

Augur has only one taboo: undead. Undead are evil, unholy creatures that serve no purpose in the hands of evil other than destruction. Even when used by good creatures it believes that undead should only be used in the most dire of circumstances, when there is no other options available. When their purpose is served, they are to be destroyed immediately. Paladins and Clerics of Augur are directed to annihilate all undead creatures they find, with particular prejudice towards intelligent undead as those creatures are the worst of their ilk.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Augur is primarily driven by the pursuit of good and heroes, as well as destroying Orcus and his minions. It believes that no other cause is more just or right than these two pursuits, and will see them done to their end even if it is to its own detriment. Anyone, itself included, that dies in the process of trying to destroy Orcus is a soul worth seeing to the Blessed Fields. Its acolytes are guided to find the corpse of its avatar, so that the body can be healed and it can get an edge over Orcus. Its presence in the Material Plane has has waned since the battle with Orcus simply because of its hyper-focus on hunting its prey.

Social

Mannerisms

Your foot touches the ground before its shrine, that ball of shining light that seems to pierce any darkness that seems to wash over it. As you kneel before it and place your hand on the ground you can feel its energy coursing through through you even before you begin to utter a small prayer to the heroes of old. Your aspirations and dreams to be like them are heard even in its home so far away - the Astral Plane seeming to carry your message until its ears are reaches. As a howl fills the air around you, your spirits are lifted and inspired - there's a glow about you for a moment in the shape of a wolf. As you take your hand away, the glow fades but you can feel its blessing about you.   Though your glow is dull, as you rise and turn to face those who would stand before you: your roar is mighty and pierces the heavens.
