Eacester

"If ye look for a city that will accept ye with open arms, Eacester is the one and only way to go!" - Rol Battleforged, dwarven historian

Visible from far away in the vast plains, fields and even near the lonely Mountain, Eacester the other major city-state of the Eastern Realms is one of the most unusual ones on The Continent. It is known for its tolerance and equality among all races, as well as its agricultural and commercial might.

Demographics

Eacester is a very rich and equal city, mostly inhabited by middle to high class merchants from all races. It is one of the only large cities that is known for its tolerance even towards tieflings! Crime rates are low, and there are no slums or ghettos in opposition to Capital Supreme .

Government

Eacester, though it may be equal in demographics, has always been ruled over by the founder's family, through an absolute monarchy with all the Power. This does not however disturb the harmony of the city, and conflicts are rare, as the despot is often well surrounded and educated. The ruler of Eacester is named the "duke of Eacester", referring to the city's former dependence of an attempt to form an Eastern Alliance shortly after the formation of the Western Alliance, brought forth by that same leader, but that was dissolved quickly due to internal conflicts.

Defences

Eacester's possesses two levels enclosed in walls, heavily defended and possessing advanced siege equipment. The port is separated from these levels, making it easier to defend and fall back from.

Industry & Trade

Eacester has thrived from agricultural and manufactured products. It is one of the only city-states where slavery was banned from the beginning, and weapons are more imported than exported.

History

Eacester was founded by a nobleman who wished to create a small interspecies village at first. However, as he continued inviting people and races, the village and its tolerance became more and more attractive to emigrants, making it grow into a city, then a city-state, crowning the nobleman king with all powers. Well advised and knowledgeable in many domains, he managed single handedly to make Eacester thrive, but he refused a more democratic government time and time again. Taking advantage of the rich lands surrounding it, the city thrived over generations on agricultural products, though, after suffering many setbacks from plagues and natural disasters, it also specialized in handmade products such as cloth and wood works.

Architecture

Eacester has a very special architecture, due to the varied races living there since its foundation. It seems as if every race contributed to its houses: Large stone buildings, typical of humans, with delicate wooden roofs made by elves, along with cavernous and chaotic inns and libraries by dwarves and Tieflings. On the outskirts, you can also find the only peaceful tribe of orcs that settled down about a century ago and became sedentary.

Geography

Eacester was built near the ocean on large plains. Thus, it is not built upon a hill like most large cities and was not built around a single historical center or keep, though the Duke's palace is in the center.
