Lockswood

Lockswood, it located deep in the Cloudfire mountain range . It is technically part of Cendliand , but its remote nature has led it to act as an independent entity. It is rare for Lockwood citizens, who are almost totally self-sufficient, to be seen outside their territory. They are a distinctive group in their Skaevder trimmed blue woollen cloaks, loose-fitting trousers and wrap boots. Sightings of women are even rarer, as they tend not to accompany the men on their infrequent trips to Cendliands’ more remote settlements in the Cloudfire mountains.

It is believed that Lockswood inhabitants still cling to the old ways and live according to pre-industrial mentalities. When they emerge, they work on a barter system, attempting to trade pelts, bone trinkets, and timber carvings for the few supplies they can not produce for themselves. The other villages in the Cloudfire mountains are happy to trade as the products can then be sold for a heavy markup to discerning collectors.

Some anthropologists have tried to enter the village but have been greeted with cold indifference. That has led to the construction of a research camp on the outskirts. Although Lockswood has been known to welcome lost strangers, some even remaining as part of the community.

As their village is outside the magic zone, they do not come into conflict with the laws regarding magic, nor do they take part in the Sword Ceremony .

Some consider the five miles surrounding the settlement to be its own principality, independent of Cendliand rule, but that distinction has not been upheld by Lunyth , and the international community has not recognised their independence.
