Blighted Forest

Geography

A forest cursed by the False God of Blight, infected through a seed that sprouted upon it's deathbed. The trees in the forest are rotted and decayed, yet their branches are tough and gnarled. The forest is shrouded in a constant sickly mist, blanketing the ground.   The plants that grow in the Blighted Forest are mutated and sickly, sprouting in pale and luminescent colors, with sickly-yellow cysts covering their surface. Brambles and thorns are littered throughout the forest, spreading like parasites that choke plant life.   Despite its twisted nature, the Blighted Forest still contains a diverse range of geographical features. There are hills that rise up from the forest floor, their slopes covered in twisted trees and thorny brambles, yet their tops lay almost out of reach of the fell blight. Rivers and streams meander through the forest, their waters tainted. Deep ravines and chasms also cut through the land, their depths shrouded in shadow and jagged roots.

Fauna & Flora

The forest is home to mutated fauna, abominations of nature that are the result of the Blight's influence. These creatures are often aggressive, yet twisted and churned by root and thorn to become frail and fractured.

History

Far back in the Origin Age, in the Age of the False Gods, an entity emerged in this forest. The entity was known as the God of Blight. Each step it walked, its fell influence spread like poison to the lands. It was not until 8002 Origin Age did the False God be put to rest, but upon its death planted a Seed of Blight, which grew unnoticed by people for decades. Only in 512 Silver Age, 29th day of Dexune, did the seed burst open and infect the forest of Faywood with its spores. It mutated plant and insect into monstrous scales, and terrified the humans that were unfortunate enough to be nearby.   During the 650s of the Silver Age, a warden of Faywood attempted to cease the spread, but failed. His decaying corpse was choked with brambles and the Blight gave it life in death. In the 660s, two people named Doppel and Holly discovered the Blighted Forest and slayed the undead warden, who had become known amongst locals as Thorn, Bane of the Forest. Thorn's death halted the spread but did not purify what it had already taken.   In 834 Golden Age, 26th day of Deboroth, Erhan, a well-renowned priest who visited from Lighthelm, purified the forest and became known as the High Priest of Faywood.
