Siege of Ravndal
The Conflict
Prelude
Before the battle that is considered the actual Siege of Ravndal there was a smaller engagment where the dwarves took the unguarded city with minimal effort.
Deployment
The dwarves, knowing of the approaching army planned much before the battle. They buried mines under the earth and set other traps for the Alterians. For the Alterians part, they relied on their overwhelming numbers and superior technology to win the battle and didn't plan much beyond simple siege tactics.
Battlefield
The field outside the city of Ravdal was frozen solid and covered with many inches of snow making troop movements difficult.
The Engagement
The siege itself was more of a battle as the Alterians, confident in their power, deciding to attack. This proved to be a mortal mistake. The Alterians did not expect two things, that Bosh and company would have betrayed them, and that the leaders of the dwarves were almost supernatural in their leadership and combat abilities.
Below is an excerpt from the plot The Siege of Ravndal
The fight began on the walls. Alterian soldiers rushed in formation while being peppered with arrows and bolts from the defenders. Only once did some of the Alterians make the wall but even they were quickly repulsed as Bosh push off the lone soldier to climb to the top. Tua made a magnificent display as he leaped down to the swarm of soldiers below and wreaked havoc on the Alterian shield wall. A messenger arrived and told the group of an Alterian squad of saboteurs attempting to blow up a section of the wall. They arrived to find barrels of explosives placed against the wall but the saboteurs held at bay behind a dugout. Bosh, and Tua jumped down and began to harry the enemy. Bosh destroyed the explosives by breaking the barrels and pushing the gunpowder into the small stream. Tua took a beating but he killed many of the enemy. After defeating all of the saboteurs they heard a horn marking the unexpected arrival of Tomar Crowskull and a group of 1000 warriors who had taken a secret path through the mountains. The group joined up with Tomar and headed out to flank the Alterian force. Tomar charged the group with slaying the commanding officer of the Alterians. Bosh, Tua, and Ulysses found themselves facing their former commander whom they had betrayed. Bosh wading into battle swinging his mace, Alterian soldiers flying left and right. Tua faced down an oncoming cavalry charge and faced the High Marshal Darlen while surrounded by the enemy. Ulysses fell to the ground prone to line up a shot on the marshal while surrounded by incoming cavalry...
Outcome
With the loss of both their army and their general the Alterians' remaining soldiers fled back to Altest ceding victory to the Sozarians.
Aftermath
The Alterians were never able to regroup well enough after the battle and eventually lost the rest of the continent to the dwarves.
