Arcanite

Arcanite is a special type of quartz crystal that is found naturally in the strata of Eoferan's crust. It comes in a variety of colors, much like Corundum. When affected by different types of magic infused with the Arcanite, the crystal shifts it's hue in response.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Arcanite is a hard crystalline mineral, usually in prismatic spikes with flat sides that range from 3 to 20 faces

Physical & Chemical Properties

Almost always cool to the touch, very durable and strong, but also brittle.

Geology & Geography

Arcanite is found sporadically in geologically consistent areas of strata that indicate that it is from something that was above surface materials and has since grown into the crystalline formation while under heat and pressure.

Origin & Source

It's assumed that Arcanite is a development that has come from the cadavers of Titans, the proto-species that inhabited Eoferan before the modern races.

History & Usage

Discovery

Discovered initially by the Eastern Humans of Krober, Gnomes and Dwarves actually found the way to really inventively utilize Arcanite for various technologies, such as communication and industry. Huge turbines of arcanite are used in the undergrounds to move water and provide magical energy to provide lighting and power to various necessities, such as ventilation.

Everyday use

In industrialized societies, like The United Providences of Kirschdorf-Snaken , Arcanite is used as a medium for various Arcanotek, such as Arcom devices.

Manufacturing & Products

Arcanite is generally cut to suit shape for whatever use the magic imbued in it gives, for the largest makers of Arcom devices, the crystals are cut and shaped into rectangles.

Hazards

There's always a chance that accidental exposure to industrial magics can overload Arcanite and cause a release of magical energies that are very destructive to organics in proximity to the overloaded crystal.

Reusability & Recycling

Arcoms are very reusable and programmable, and Arcanite in general can be reused for any purpose with the dispellation and reintroduction of magics.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Vakilalona in Dulkunbu is the primary sourced mine for all Arcanite in the continent. There are several smaller mines, but none that matches the sheer output of Vakilalona. The crystals are then sent to Lausental in Krober for cutting and then shipping to various areas of the continent. These artifacts are looked at with suspicion in much of the continent, but Dosinland, Krober, Kirschdorf, Snaken, and Tisen view them as essential and thus are willing to pay a hefty market on the material and worked product. It's generally viewed as a vanity or luxury in Krober and in Dosinland, however Kirschdorf, Snaken, Trisen and the kingdom of Dulkunbu use them heavily in everyday life, where it's almost an essential item for living a productive life in those countries.

Storage

Arcanite is pretty stable in it's raw form, but brittle. As such it needs to be stored with plenty of packing material to ensure that it doesn't have any big shocks that would cause the crystals to shatter into unusably small pieces. After processing, each crystal is packaged by itself to protect it's shell, and to keep the different magical natures of each device from bleeding into each other.

Law & Regulation

In Kirshdorf, Snaken and Trisen, there are laws regarding the protection of personal information that the crystal can gather, and blank crystals are strictly monitored to ensure that when imbued that are given the same rigorous protections for the end user. Raw crystals can be dangerous without adequate magical knowledge, causing persons to be trapped inside of them as if their very physical form was a form of data that the phone could read and store.
