The Fade Condition in Eodora | World Anvil

The Fade

The Fade is a mysterious phenomenon that affects the brain. The cause of this affliction has yet to be determined. The initial stages of the affliction are rather timid. Ranging from mild discolouration along the neck and back of the head to a sporadic twitch in the facial expression. Those that have suffered from it for a longer period of time tend to suffer from a slurred speech, dizziness, and headaches. Those that have been exposed to it for a large duration suffer from memory loss, both long term as well as short term.   The time for the Fade to advance from its initial observation to the total loss of memory takes place anywhere between six months to two years if left untreated. Whilst no cure has been found for the Fade, it has been discovered that regularly ingesting a tea made from the laco leaf delays the progression of the Fade, whilst prolonged exposure to the cold accelerates it.   The appearance of the Fade has given rise to several distinct social movements and it has been interpreted in many different ways. Two different takes on the appearance of the Fade are the Abolishment movement and the Emaran movement. Those that follow the abolishment movement believe that the affliction is a blessing from Alun to forget about your past and cleanse you of the sins that you have committed to start anew. Those that follow the Emaran movement believe that this affliction is the way how Emara attains her knowledge, by taking it from the individuals to add to their own. To this day there is no clear indication of whether either of these thoughts is correct.
