Ranger
Summary
The Ranger Corp of the United Future Coalition is one of the most dangerous professions one could have within the UFC, and it tends to attract a very different crowd than any of the other military corps. Rangers tend to be hardcore survivalists, daredevils, outcasts, rehabilitated ex-cons (though they have their own special unit), and other such individuals.
Rangers are the elite forces of the UFC, frequently venturing out into dangerous locations that are beyond the skills of regular guardsmen and soldiers, and are often expected to clear out any extreme threats they come across. They often operate in squads of 3-6 individuals, though sometimes they are temporarily embedded into a squadron of regular soldiers. They're often sent off on solo missions to deal with smaller threats to their territory.
All settlements have at least one ranger in permanent residence. Smaller settlements will often only have the one, while larger cities such as Intersection City have dozens of rangers. This is one of the major draws of joining the UFC for most: an elite guardian that has a skillset capable of helping them both survive and grow as a community.
Rangers have some of the shortest life-expectancies of anyone on Haven Alpha, with many being weeded out within the first year of active deployment. Those that survive their first year become hardened veterans with serious value. It's very rare for a ranger to retire; the number of such individuals numbers just a few hundred, and only a couple dozen are still alive today.
Skills
All rangers are given general survivalist training to allow them to easily live out in the ruins of Haven Alpha indefinitely, and are often quite capable of repairing their own gear. After basic training rangers then specialize in a combat role that best fits their own interests and talents; most rangers end up as operatives, though many also becomes soldiers. It's rare for a ranger to become a mechanic, but such individuals are prized members of any squad.
Magic of any variety is rare within the Ranger Corp, but they members with such abilities do appear every now and again. Technomancers are the most common, with witchwarpers coming in a close second due to their abilities turning them into slight social pariahs.
