Mêmkimi'och

The Democratic Lands of Mêmkimi'och, shortened to simply Mêmkimi'och, is a nation located on the far eastern continent, between the E’osuwê Sea to the west and the Pen Bay to the east.

The capital, Eliustium, is located on the western coast and is the southernmost port. Further north on the coast are the cities of Slia and Kordayt, the latter torn apart by the war with Tupasmim. Down south, at the edge of the jungle, stands Preva, meanwhile on the eastern coast and similarily just outside of the jungle, thrives the city of Londemedio. Inland and closer to the capital, Vemovialica; parallel to Slia, its twin city Nadhourbat, while at the northenmost edge of Mêmki territory, Ajdit has recently been conquered.

Known as a highly determined people, the Mêmkimi’och-i, sometimes shortened to Mêmki, are a people of conquerors. Their non-aggression treaty with Siyyûtin is the best proof of this: in exchange for a large part of their financial profits, Mêmkimi’och agrees not to declare war. On the other hand, when it is not possible for these people to obtain what they want, or when they face resistance, they do not hesitate for a second to launch hostilities, as in Tupasmim.

Government

Mêmkimi'och is divided in multiple cantons, who, combined, decide on nation-wide policies. They do not use representatives but instead, each law suggestion has to be approved by all cantons to be put in use - unless specific situations where a canton can be excempt from participating, such as for cultural events. Within cantons, in the same fashion, there are no representatives and anyone of Mêmki nationality and above the drinking age can have a say. Political assemblies are held on a very regular basis, generally on a village or city's main square, and regroup all citizens fitting the criterias mentionned above. For those unable to attend, a system is put in place to ensure they still have a say in political decisions: the assembly leader has to consult those not attending in the week following the assembly, at the end of which they have duty to recalculate the votes and announce them at the following assembly.

Thus, in every city and village, is present a town hall which ensures any decisions taken by the citizens are relayed to the capital, and law suggestions from the capital is submitted to residents.

Fashion and society

As for clothing, Mêmki can be considered modest; one of the most striking item worn by everyone regardless of social status is a hair and/or head covering. Not only does it have a purpose indicating self-respect by controling who is allowed to see the defining features of oneself, it also has a more mythical explanation: long ago lived Self Stealers, beings who took the appearance of their victims when committing crimes and thus had them framed. The only way to render oneself "unattractive" as victim, was to hide the traits that made one unique, hair.

Therefore, covering one's hair, or even face, is a sign of self-respect but also of protection. Wealth is thus shown by the complexity of the cover, the amount of skin hidden, the quality of the fabric and its decorations. However it's important to note that the number of layers is not always synonymous with wealth.

The three great pillars that dominate society are the Army, Commerce and the Arts. Warriors, regardless of gender or background, start their career armed with bows, Mana spells and silver spears in the style of naginata and pertuisanes; gold is added gradually until it replaces silver after significant military feats and Shamshir-style curved swords can be wielded. Counted as arts are music, dance, singing and astrology.
