Vatelles
The Vatelles are a loose confederation of tribes on the middle continent (often called Southern Continent by the Ramerians). While many Ramerians view it as an actual country, it is actually a collection of countless smaller nations, some only counting a single village, others covering multiple acres, each with their own independent leader.
It was chosen to be green as it is easy to create green fabric and the lack of any insignia removes the need for any skilled craftsmanship.
A prominent race in the Vatelles are the Elves, which are almost always only small minorities on other continents, yet have large tribes there. Their culture highly encourages travelling and exploring, which is a large reason why they can be found so far away from their own nations.
The tribes on the Northern coast are generally more advanced, both culturally and technologically, due to the influence from Rameria and generally more habitable land.
Since most soldiers employed by these tribes are defending their actual hometowns, they have exceptional morale and superior knowledge of the area, permitting highly effective guerilla tactics. Further, the long traditions completely reject most forms of central authority, which is why there have only very rarely been attempts from Ramerian powerholders to actually subjugate any of them.
This starts to change now however, with the rise of the merchant class, with Grand Vailia leading the way. The rapid advancements in gunpowder technology permits this new class to effectively occupy the tribes with a way smaller force. Since, opposed to the nobility, they aren't actually interested in anything aside from money, and the resources which they can turn into money, this resulted in already many tribes being incorporated into the Vailian Trading Company.
Founding
The Vatelles were never really founded, initially they were simply the holdings of Cylia on the then unnamed continent who after the Invasion of Hell started organising themselves into so called 'Vatelles' (=native word for long term alliances) which however occasionally wage wars against each other.
During that time, the Green Banner was first raised: a symbol signalising an external threat and a call for aid to all other tribes. Since they do not have any shared institutions, they cannot be forced to actually pick up arms when the banner is raised. It was chosen to be green as it is easy to create green fabric and the lack of any insignia removes the need for any skilled craftsmanship.
Culture
The culture of the Vatelles is extremely diverse with radically different local traditions and customs in each tribe. This, combined with the countless different races present there, making any unification and centralisation efforts extremely ineffective.A prominent race in the Vatelles are the Elves, which are almost always only small minorities on other continents, yet have large tribes there. Diplomatic Relations
There are no unified diplomatic relations due to the extreme autonomy of the single tribes and most of the tribes farther away from the coasts, in the far less habitable lands, tend to completely keep to themselves.
A number of northern Elf tribes have trade agreements and even defensive pacts with various Ramerian nations, usally in an attempt by the latter to gain valuable local resources.Since most soldiers employed by these tribes are defending their actual hometowns, they have exceptional morale and superior knowledge of the area, permitting highly effective guerilla tactics.
