The Creation Myth

The Creation Myth has, in some form or another, been the base for almost every religion from Rameria over Xingqin and even to the far Kingdoms south of the Vatelles. However, in most of these places, the original myth has long since been replaced by an ever-expanding Pantheon of gods.

The Creation of the World

At the beginning of time itself, only primal beings associated with the very fabric of reality existed. Among these beings was a single one with a drive for more: a drive to create, rather than to just endlessly observe an unchanging, empty void. This nameless being created everything from the stars in the sky to the grains of sand on the beaches. An eternity later, life first started to develop as an unforeseen consequence of their actions, enamouring the ageless being: the microscopic organisms that had developed were never intended, yet they seemed to move and exist of their own volition. Another eternity had to pass for them to develop into fish, then yet another one until they conquered the land too. Yet another eternity had to pass before the appearance of humans, the first beings to not only live but be able to express themselves, develop personalities and even societies.
It was these humans that the god fell deeply in love with: from the first fire in a cave, this god decided to take the shape of a human, showing themselves to and interacting with them. They loved the adoration of the crowd and their will to live. Yet on one fateful occasion, They revealed themselves to a humble farmer who showed nothing but fear in front of his creator. Brandishing a spear, the man tried to kill them in order to protect his wife and children. Of course, the matter that formed only because of the will of this primordial god did nothing to hurt them. And yet, the god was never this elated and impressed: their own creation, not falling onto his knees before him but fighting them in order to protect those he loved. In order to keep on living. In a moment of pure compassion, the god granted him this wish: manifesting fully physically, they let the spear run through their body and pierce their heart, a smile on their face as the god of all of existence was slain by a lowly farmer.
From that time onwards, the god vanished from the world and yet their work persisted, watched over by countless other uncaring primordial beings that wanted nothing to do with the human race.

The Cataclysm

Yet a base aspect of reality cannot simply die. Instead, the god slowly reformed over the course of millennia. And the pure conviction to keep on living they saw in this man that had slain them was imprinted into their very mind. Yet once they were fully alive again, their desire to create was fully replaced by an inexplicable drive to destroy everything. To restore the pure, perfect nothingness that once existed before they created everything that was.
All it took was an instant for reality to be torn into countless pocket dimensions, every single being having to wait for entropy to assimilate it into the great nothingness. Yet there was a single person the god was unable to simply destroy: the descendant of the man who once killed him. For their thoughts continued to linger on him, and nothing that was remembered could truly be destroyed. And in turn, every person from his little village, every tree in the forest next to the river and every bird that this descendant, the Astray Wanderer, could still remember remained in existence as well. This started a chain reaction that threatened to recreate the world, albeit in the flawed version it was remembered as.
Now, the god started creating and sending beings at the wanderer in an attempt to kill him and continue his plan of complete nothingness, unknowingly granting him the strength to resist these challenges through their thoughts of the possibility of his victory. And so ensued a struggle that eventually ended just the way it started: a bloodied, exhausted, and scared wanderer was standing in front of his god, a spear in his hand that had pierced the heart of the being that once wanted to destroy him. And once more, a smile was on their face. How magnificent. A being of his own creation not only showing the will to live but openly rebelling against its god.
As reality was slowly rebuilt, society reformed in a far more primal state, as the wanderer himself was a mere mercenary born to simple farmers before the cataclysm, leaving many technological advancements unremembered. And it is said that even now, the god is reforming somewhere in outer space, only to one day be reborn again with an endless drive to create.

Modern Times

Throughout the ages, the people of the Vatelles - the homeplace of the wanderer - revered his bloodline, yet as opposed to many modern religions, they were never considered divine or even more than human. The Astray Bloodline are considered simple humans, despite the great feat of their forefather, meaning they did not hold a specific position of power. Still, the immense prestige that went along with the name resulted in many of them becoming leaders and even rulers of their own right, with every powerful ruler striving to have an advisor of this bloodline at his court.
