Bouron Mines
A centuries-old mine that used to be the lifeblood of the town of Bouron, but has since been left dormant.
Purpose / Function
The Bouron mines started over a century ago with the intended purpose of mining iron from the mountain it resides in. As the years went on, it eventually became known that mythril can also be found within the mountain's depths, so the mine grew in activity.
Architecture
Almost everything in the mines is carved from stone or forged using metals such as copper and iron. Very little wood is brought down for fear of mildew, although some structures on the upper floors are wooden.
History
Opened in 1969, the Bouron mine was the foundation upon which the town of Bouron was made. After a vein of raw iron was found in the mountainside, the locals set up a few homes in order to settle down and begin digging.
Around 30 years into the excavation, the mine was already 5 levels deep (minus the entrance level), and a discovery was made in the lower depths. Veins of mythril, a scarce and valuable mineral, were found. More than ever before, the local town saw growth in population and wealth, which lead to more miners coming to the mines, which lead to more iron and mythril being excavated.
In the year 2671, disaster struck. An unexpected cave-in collapsed the lower levels of the mine, injuring dozens of miners and trapping many more under the rubble, never to be heard from again. The Baroness of Bouron saw the catastrophe as a sign that the mine was too old and dangerous, and operations were shut down a few days later. In the decade that's followed, the Bouron mines have been abandoned.
