The cyclant is a species of insect found mainly in the lowland jungles of Pulliday off the south-western coast of Endhaven. They measure up to an inch in length and half an inch in width, with six legs attached to a thorax whose coloration can range from white to fully transparent. The cyclant's wings fold up against the thorax and are both lightweight and dense, providing powerful movements in flight with little applied force necessary.
It is this distinct feature, along with its social behaviors, that give the cyclant its name. When cyclants hunt as a swarm, they will take flight and spin around in a circle, creating a powerful wind current within that can pull in animals thousands of times the cyclant's own weight. The powerful forces generated can also rip the flesh off of any beast unfortunate enough to be caught within, coating the swarm with its blood and dying them crimson. This often leads to the misconception about the true natural color of the cyclant, and also earns them the nickname of redwinds among the locals.
However, cyclants aren't entirely malevolent creatures. Though they are commonly feared as carnivores who will feast on large prey, smaller swarms can adapt to frugivorism, using their spiraling techniques to shake fruit free from trees or vines.
