I: The Sun Rises

As the first section of the campaign, the players will be jailed and sent as a chain gang to mine rocks. One prisoner tries to escape, only to be attacked by Cataclysm-warped beasts never seen before. The Council will decide the players' fate based on their actions, allowing them to leave Sanctuary with full pockets at any point, or by dumping them outside like the criminal scum they are.

Structure

Exposition

The players find themselves as part of a chain gang journeying from Sanctuary to a section of the cave that recently collapsed in on itself. Each player has been sentenced to hard labor for their crimes, whatever they may be, passing through familiar territory in the city on their way to the worksite.

Rising Action

As the players start to dig and hack away, having the opportunity to talk with others as they work, one prisoner finds a small chink in a rock that, when pushed aside, leads to Endhaven. This prisoner may have been interacting with one of the players from before, but desperately desire escape and will stare at the crack of sunlight in awe before shoving the boulder aside and trying to run to freedom. Upon doing this, they will be attacked by [enemies TBD] that make their way into the cave as well. The players will have several tools to attack with, such as pickaxes and [other things] that they can also use to break through spellcasters' lead-lined manacles.

Climax

Upon slaying the [enemies], the party will be quickly rushed back to their cells in [Sanctuary prison] for some time. After this, each will be gathered in the chambers of the Council of Nine to pardon them for their bravery (especially if any guards were defended) and tell them the truth about Endhaven before sending them out. If the players mostly acted to escape their captors, they will be chastised severely by the Council before being sentenced into Endhaven defenceless, much like previous hard criminals in Sanctuary's past.

Resolution

If the players were obedient to Sanctuary and the guards, they have the opportunity to meet with a shopkeep also setting out for Endhaven someday soon and buy supplies for the journey. If the players disobeyed, they will be sent out to Endhaven in chains, unceremoniously released with no possessions into the unknown wilds.
