Tyferian, Royal

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures have six-legs and a serpentine body. Their legs end in sharp claws for scaling trees. On their upper torso, they have four arms. To move quickly or through the trees, Tyferians drop to all ten and walk like a centipede. To perform actions they rise up and use their four arms. The head of a Tyferian consists of four fierce reptilian eyes, two crushing mandibles and a long coiling tongue. They have a long slender tail that they use to balance as well. Royals have a delicate look to their appearance and also have two insectoid wings sprouting from their shoulders.

Biological Traits

Basic Flight: Royal Tyferians have wings that are developed enough to fly. As a partial action they can take off from a standing position. After taking off, the Tyferian gains a fly speed equal to double its standard movement. Tyferians cannot fly while under medium or heavy overencumbrance or while exhausted. Royals can fly for a number of consecutive rounds equal to their Endurance (minimum 1 round). They can exert themselves to fly for up to twice as long, but then they are exhausted at the end of the flight. Royals are likewise exhausted after spending a total of more than 20 minutes per day flying. In addition, Royals can use their wings to glide, negating damage from a fall from any height and allowing 6 meters of forward travel for every 2 meters of descent. At 5th level, the duration a Royal can consecutively fly is doubled and there is no limit per day on time spent flying.   Crushing Mandibles: A Tyferian can perform an bite attack that has a WDR of 6 + Str/4 Piercing.   Darting Tongue: As a partial action, a Tyferian can perform a melee attack at a 3m range. This has a weapon rating of 2 Crushing. If the tongue hits an object or creature under 5 kg, the Tyferian can pull it back. Creatures can perform a STR save against the Crushing Improvised skill of the Tyferian plus the Tyferian's Level*10 to resist being pulled.   Frail Body: Tyferian royals have a frail body type, due to this they have a -15 to Fortitude. In addition, they are vulnerable to Crushing.   Royal Blood: Tyferian Royals have become accustomed to being served and relish in being served. They gain a +3 to Politics and +3 to Political History. In addition, they gain a +8 to Diplomacy.   Royal Tongue: When a royal speaks it commands a certain about of respect. They may spend ranks in any skill under Rhetoric at -2 the normal cost.

Genetics and Reproduction

Royal Tyferians can become a queen; growing in size, losing their limbs and wings and becoming effectively immobile. The queen reproduces asexually spawning larva which grow to become either a drone, royal or warrior depending on the current need of the city. Any royal may shed its typical form to become a queen should the need arise, however, most do not desire it and will not seek out to form their own settlement unless absolutely required of them.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tyferian larva grow slowly over several years to form into either a drone, royal or warrior. By consuming a specific protein produced by the queen, the larva morph into the form that the queen deems most needed at the time of growth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Multi-Spectral Eyes
Tyferian royals can detect multiple different spectrums of light. Tyferians royals must declare what kind of vision they wish to use prior to making any checks. It requires a free action to switch between visual ranges.
Thermalscale Vision: Focusing on the infrared side of the light spectrum. It allows for vision based on heat sources. Thermalscale is the closest to darkvision one can get without magical assistance. Visual arc 120 degrees.

Thermalscale Vision

Characters with thermalscale vision can see through certain objects. If a creature of the heat or flesh types is behind cover they may still be "visible". If the target is not trying to hide you must roll a Challenging Success, if the target is attempting to hide you must roll 3 more successes than they do on thier hide or move silently check.

If the creature or object is the fire type reduce the number of successes needed by 2
