Social Structure

Tyferians live in a very structured caste ordered society. From birth a Tyferian is marked a Drone, Warrior or Royal. This affects how they grow and their role in society. In the city, as par with regular medieval feudalism, the nobles class is taken up by the Royal subtype. These Tyferians take up profession as court nobles, diplomats, scholars or other prestigious positions. The next caste down is the Warriors. Warriors are born to protect their queen. They train from birth to become battle-ready and ready to die for their city. All aspects of military and law enforcement are taken up by this class. The lowest caste is the drones. These take up all the aspects of the economy. Another instinctive caste resides inside this caste as well. Some drones are quite wealthy and powerful. They make up the mercantile of the city and are very influential. While being very communal in working together and living as a whole, Tyferians have elements of a capitalistic society. Some, like the merchants, rise high above their brethren in monetary gain. The ‘Nin’ is used in exchange for various goods, although the ‘Ijam’ is also widely accepted. The next tier resides in the craft folk, many drones seem to take up a particular knowledge and manufacture a variety of goods. Tyferian craftsmanship is well-known among guilds across the world. The bottom of the ladder is the simple folk. These do farming, hunting, hauling, and other menial tasks. The iron machine of society needs all parts to function and the Tyferians understand as such. It is not uncommon for other races, even Ijaapii, to reside within a Tyferian city. After the initial shock, they prove to be a well-functioning group of people. Although any foreign race cannot rise above the ‘drone’ caste and must still serve the queen. Most do this quite willingly as she is usually an honorable and just ruler.

“Of all the creatures I have encountered in my adventures, the Tyferian are by far the most terrifying. My first encounter with a Tyferian was deep in the jungles of Neverwinter. I came across a reptilian creature about a meter tall with fearsome mandibles, and a serpentine body. It had a myriad of limbs consisting of four arms and six legs. Upon seeing me, it dropped down like a snake using its arms like legs ran up the trunk into a tree. It returned shortly with two more, these ones much bigger. Shockingly, I was able to communicate with them in Islandspeak and despite their appearance, they turned out to be quite friendly. They invited me up into their city in the trees. I discovered an honor-bound people living in voluntary servitude to their Queen. I found out that the one I had initially encountered was a Drone, and the larger two that had returned with him were Warriors. These creatures, despite their terrifying appearance, had very good manners and a well-structured society. Each one knew his place and worked as a whole. Although there was nothing forcing compliance, it seemed as if their natural instinct provided all the motivation that was needed. Before I left, I did witness the destruction of an Ijaapic scouting party. Those warriors are not to be messed with. The fear in the eyes of the scouts still haunts me to this day. All is fair in love and war, I guess. In summation, throughout this encounter I have developed both a newfound respect and fear for this race.”
