Difrerenism
Difrerenism is an ancient religion dating back to when the first Narmen and Pocci climbed from the depths onto the frozen tundras. The first Narman to step foot on land was Effra and the first Pocci was said to be Calan. Both brothers were said to have claimed the land to themselves and were going to dominate the entirety of it. So they waged war against each other. Splitting the once coexisting species of the Pocci and Narmen into a never-ending bloody feud.
Tenets of Faith
Effranic:
- Priests may marry and conduct marriage ceremonies. Marriage ceremonies are conducted by branding the thigh of the couple with a clan insignia.
- There may only be ten ruling clans per Shore Seer. Only the Wave Seer has the power to create a new ruling clan.
- A yearly Tithe must be paid in Ounzes to the Wave Seer.
- Pocci may receive the mark of Shame, a branded crest, renouncing Calan and serving as subservient to the Narmen.
- All Pocci not bearing the mark of Shame are lesser creatures. They may be killed, enslaved or tortured without repercussion.
- All Narmen are children of Effra are must be helped at all costs. Unwillingness to help a Narman in need is a sin in the eyes of Effra.
Calanic:
- Once a male reaches the age of 23, he goes through the ceremony of adulthood in which a prisoner is executed and his blood smeared upon the chest of the Pocci. Calan then marks his chest with one of three symbols:
- Symbol of Maturity, the most common symbol, this Pocci is allowed to court women and become part of the woman's dynasty.
- Symbol of Priesthood, this Pocci is destined to become a clergyman.
- Once a female reaches the age of 20 she is considered to have reached adulthood is allowed to either court a male and found her own dynasty, continue the dynasty of her parents or become of the mate of a Calan-signed male.
- Narmen are inferior and weak and must be taught a lesson. All Narmen are proclaimed enemies of the church and must be killed onsite. Only Narmen bearing the Symbol of Calan can be trusted and only a select few in history have come to bear such mark.
Priesthood
Effranic:
There are currently 7 Shore Seers. One for each High Temple of Effra. One Shore Seer is elected by the council to serve as the Wave Seer and is the most powerful of the clergy.
Calanic:
The leader of all the Pocci is the Alpha Calan-signed and is said to be the reincarnation of Calan himself. To become alpha Calan-signed one must be blessed by Calan on the Winter Solstice by being touched by the Aurora lights and given the symbol of Calan upon their inner hand.
- The Alpha Calan-signed does not have to be Pocci, twice it has been recorded as a different species. Once it was a Narman and another it was a Proteka
