Birth of Dragon Magic
Summary
Lady Alara, the All-Mother, knew the powers the gods held could corrupt. With their powers being unchecked, she decided they needed to divide up the power so that not one deity could corrupt the other, or other worlds. At first, many of the gods disagreed, believing any non-divinity incapable of upholding the balance of their magic. Alara claimed otherwise, and wagered they would find the right non-divine species to uphold their end of the bargain. If she won, they had to give up half of their magic to the found species. If she lost, they could each become the All-Parent for a week. Dubious, the gods accepted her wager.
One day, Lady Alara took all of the gods to Enaros and they searched the planet for the right species to divide up their magic with. They searched day and night, talking to each species they came across, from tiny starnis to huge bthana. None seemed worthy of sharing the magic of gods and being willing to keep it in balance.
Eventually, they came across a young dragon in northern End'oria. The young dragon, of course was hot-headed, as are many young. Yet, she boasted dragons are one of the greatest species on the planet. Wanting to learn more about the dragons, Alara and her comrades all followed the dragonette home, where they were met with hundreds of dragons, many of them older than the Torobi Mountain Chain. Curious, the gods approached and talked to each dragon they came into contact with.
Alara herself saw no need to investigate the dragons further, as she sensed their great potential. Though, she struck up conversations with the dragons anyway, wondering what they were like.
After meeting with the dragons, the other gods reluctantly agreed that the dragons were worthy. Their bodies, their lifespans, their love and adoration for their world made them perfect candidates to uphold the gods' magic.
Seeing no other viable candidates, the gods returned a few days later and bestowed each dragon with their magic. It is said that the last dragon to receive the gods' powers was the young dragonette they met first, and that dragonette may have been Dasith, and in that same theory, it is said Alara was the one to gift her the chaos magic.
Historical Basis
Although this is a myth, it does bear some truth in history. Though, it's unclear where the myths end and where the truth starts.
Spread
This myth is well-known in Endinisian Culture and is even considered an integral part of the religion. Children are taught this from a young age, and dracid children are especially told this story. Dracid children are taught this story from a young age to give them an appreciation of the origins of their dragon ancestor's magic.
Variations & Mutation
While the basis of the story remains the same, with dracid families, there is additional mythology with their dragon ancestor's lineage and origins. One example is that the parents of Tehghess, a dragon with aural vision, were given the magic in exchange for a few talons so that the deity, Aien, could make fancy dinnerware for the gods. Granted, no one is sure if that was a real thing or not, but it entertains the kids, at least.
In Literature
There have been many books written about this myth, the most famous of which is titled Alara's Journey, written almost 1,000 years ago. The author, Irouh Sardhenya, originally wrote it as a form of storytelling for his children, but realized the potential it had as a book. It sold amazingly, and many utilize it as the actual story behind the dragon's magic, despite the fact that many of the events were fictionalized and even exaggerated for the sake of storytelling.
In Art
There are plenty of art regarding this myth and dragons in general. There are many famous paintings and tapestries. It's an important event in history, myth or not.

This is an incredible story, and I love how the Dragons have no idea whether it's genuine or not, but they keep it around because it's a good story for them and some historical relevance even if they can't figure out where it begins.
Hell yeah! Thank you so much! ^_^
