Dracid

Each dracid’s dracidic ability came from a common ‘ancestral’ dragon, the dragon that infused their blood with them. Vinielth was the dragon of dreams and dream-weaving. The Beservera’s dragon ancestor was Tehghess, who gave them aural vision. There were many dragons who infused their blood, including those who performed the ritual several times.

Dracids are a species created by dragons with existing zhasic (humanoid) species to carry on dragon magic in their bloodlines. Their magic is called Dracidic Magic. The concept was originally suggested by Dasith after thorough research on how to preserve the magic gods had bestowed upon them millennia ago. The first dracid was born in 245 to an eathyn couple in Kestria, Khnata Sawhenji.

With how new dracids are, given there's only been 5-6 generations of them, not a whole lot is known about them: mostly in regards to lifespan and mortality, as well as how genetics work. As of Inarora's Excursion, the longest living dracid is Vivian Pierre, being almost 164 years old. Given how much aging slows within dracids, it's presumed they live longer than 200 years, maybe longer.

Although these people are imbued with the blood of a dragon, as well as their magic, it isn't well-understood as to how it works from person to person. For Seri Mihata, it's unknown as to why his body hurts more than other dracids with the shapeshifting ability. He rarely utilizes his shapeshifting due to the agony it brings him. However, his nephew, Xavier, and great nephew, Damyien, do not experience such agony during their transformations.

Out of all the dragons who had infused their blood, which was most of them, Dasith is the only one who only infused her blood one time. This is due to the nature of her magic, which was seen as 'unnatural' and 'too destructive' to give to any individual. Once it was found out she had infused her magic in a zhasic family, she was brutally murdered. Interestingly enough, this magic only ever showed up in one person, Inarora, a few generations later. This is because Dasith made sure the magic would show up in the person strong enough to handle her powers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dracids all have their base zhasic species' anatomy (i.e. eathyn dracids keep their cat ears and tails), however they also sport magic dragon wing 'tattoos', where their wings sprout from when being used. Granted, dragon wings are rarely used these days with the advent of the far more practical airships. Though, children enjoy bouncing around with their wings and parents occasionally have to pull out their own to keep up with the children and/or stop them from being menaces.

Biological Traits

  • Dragon fire
  • Dragon fire is a dracid's main line of defense in the event of an attack. The only thing that can stop a dracid from breathing this fire is to cast a nullification spell, which is rare.
  • Higher body temperature than most other mammals in general
  • In Inarora's Excursion, it is said that a fever for Byron is 112º Fahrenheit, or 44.4º Celsius, indicating his base body temp is about 109ºF/43ºC
  • The average dracid's body temperature ranges from 109ºF/43ºC to about 114ºF/46ºC
  • Dracids can have parents with different dracidic magic, however, they cannot have both abilities.
  • Sometimes, they can temporarily have both abilities but one eventually takes over and the other disappears forever.
  • Some dracids never unlock their dracidic magic, some unlock theirs later on like Kaedan will.
  • Periods in people with a uterus have an extended time for giving birth, and so far the average age of menopause is around 80-100 years old.
  • Depending on the main species, a person starts their period anywhere between 10 to 23 years old! (That's a long time to bleed!)

  • Dracid Wings

Dracid wings are proportional to the individual, and will carry them great distances. However, since they are rarely used these days, most dracids have a harder time flying with their wings due to disuse. Sometimes, the wings pop out from their 'tattoo' or 'birthmark' at night and lay over the person like a blanket, as seen with Inarora and Kaedan. No one is certain as to why or how this happens, just that it does. And is probably one of the cutest things ever, to be honest.

Dracid wings can take elegant shapes akin to a butterfly's or rugged like a bat's. Most, however, do not glow—except for Inarora's, given her relation to Dasith. Colors and designs can be just about anything.

Doodles of two wings: a sapphire, sparkly one shaped similarly to a butterfly's wingbelonging to Inarora. The orange one belongs to an unknown person, and looks more like traditional dragon wings.

    Growth Rate & Stages

For the most part, dracids experience the same stages of life as non-dracid zhasics. However, they do get an additional stage: around the age of 10 through about the age of 15 is when their dracid abilities develop. This is a crucial stage when the dracid in question must learn to utilize their abilities properly, or they risk losing it. Although, some dracids, like Kaedan, either never get to this stage or get to it late, and it's not entirely known why.

    Additional Information

    Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dracids are almost everywhere in the world. However, they are more concentrated in different regions and less concentrated in others. Dracids are the densely concentrated on the Endinsian continent, in Hoseki, Xinghong, Jiyeog, and Shahran while they are sparsely concentrated in the Ph'tani continent, in Hyr, and in Rhanalan. Otherwise, they are sprinkled throughout the world.

    Civilization and Culture

    Historical Figures

  • Lysander Beservera: mudered for his attempts at revealing humanity and specifically their organization's crimes against the zhasic world.
  • Ezekiel Beservera: killed during the Bloody Journalism Campaign for being a journalist
  • Minister Beservera: Known currently as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for End'oria, though is a former senator and also served in the Second Rhanalanian War.
  • Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Extremist humans from organizations such as Children of the Prophet deem dracids to be as evil as their dragon predecessors, but are unable to eradicate them the way they did dragons because of how that would look to the rest of the world (as well as revealing their secret that they killed the dragons themselves). Countries such as Naa'ran and Str'ana do not teach their children about dracids other than saying they simply exist. Nothing beyond that, leaving many clueless on what dracids are.
