Bloody Journalism Campaign

During the First Inter-Contiental War, the Naa'rani army captured and tortured, raped, shot, and/or bombed journalists during the war in an attempt to prevent the truth from reaching other countries. This resulted in a massacre of journalists from both sides of the conflict, and a loss of important information regarding the war.

The Conflict

Prelude

In the beginning of the war, journalists were brought to the frontlines to bring news to the civilians at home, who were waiting on loved ones to return as well as to document what they saw for future generations to learn about. The first year of the war, journalists were allowed safe passage and to report as they would. However, when the Naa'rani found out about how the journalists refused to mince words and spoke without bias, Naa'rani President Cid Burkes ordered his generals to get the journalists out.

When it came time to get the journalists to leave, they refused. Instead, they stayed put and continued their work in protest of the Naa'rani government. When the generals failed to report the journalists were gone, the President ordered the systematic eradication of journalists during the war. Over the course of five years, a group of specially trained units hunted down the rogue journalists. Unrelated units who happened to find them were told to do whatever they wanted.

The Engagement

Raid of Cirae

The Raid of Cirae was one of the biggest attacks on journalists during the campaign. This raid alone killed approximately 30 journalists. The units dedicated to the eradication of journalists busted down doors in their hunt for journalists, kidnapped them, tortured them, and eventually executed them. Some executed the journalists in the city square, some did the executions in private.

Aftermath

It took decades for the world to piece together the exact events, a lot of it having been initialy discovered by Lysander Beservera, who managed to get back remains of his sibling's notebooks when a Rhanalanian excavation team found it buried in a safehouse that had been burned to the ground by the Naa'rani army. No one is positive how much of it remained intact, though Lysander believes his brother's spirit protected it so that he could find it.

Historical Significance

Legacy

After finding out his brother was killed in this massacre, and in the years after the war, Lysander Beservera made it his mission to find out what the Naa'rani government was trying to hide with the notes recovered by the war. During this investigation, Lysander learned more about the Naa'ani and their Council than he ever thought he would. He tried to expose the secrets of what happened, but lost his life in the process.

Dark, but also very real. Which is something I enjoy reading. The layout is also very clean and bright, easy to read.
