Sundering of Durothil
With the fighting between Wood & High at its very peak, no end to the civil war was in sight.
In the early hours of a quiet Moonday morning in Palesun, a small group of Wood entered the halls of Durothil's great Arch-mage Governing Tower. In here they planned to locate & retrieve a rumored weapon made by the High.
Eventually on the 128th floor in one of the towers the group entered a large open room, sitting in the center was what appeared to be another room. A cube 15 feet (4.5m) wide, deep & high with a central door allowing entry. After finally entering the room they found the "room" was the weapon. Unable remove the object the group attempted to learn as much about it as possible & disable it.
It is not know exactly how it happened but from those that, somehow, survived an awesome blue light was see emanating from one of the Arch-mage Governing Tower towers. This sphere of light/magic slowly pulsed larger & larger until it consumed the 20 floors above & below the 128th. Then in a fraction of a second without a sound the light erupted in a cacophony of different colours, almost everything this light touched disintegrated.
By the time dawns light came, Durothil & the surrounding area for miles had already been left barren for hours. The only thing left was a crater some 400miles (644km) in diameter, no green, no life, only desert within its walls.
