Walid Haxhi

Mukarrib Walid Haxhi

Walid Haxhi was born on an island still recovering from war. His father had led the final liberation of Andros itself from the occupation of the Jakonian Empire. Much of the island's infrastructure was in ruins, and even the maintenance of the Queen's Highway had lapsed and needed repair. Despite numerous islands still being controlled by imperial forces, Walid was instead witness to the rise of new development and construction to help restore the economic prosperity of Andros. As one of only a few sons who had survived the war and the aftermath, Walid was educated in math and architecture, learning much from the artisans who had come to the region to rebuild.   Walid took his first wife at sixteen and his first concubine several years later, and rather than joining up with the corsairs for glory or warfare, he instead remained focused upon economic development and construction. He continued his education, becoming the first mukarrib to receive higher education from the mainland, attending courses from the College of Whitemarsh in naval construction and tactics. Many of the techniques were useful in rebuilding the lives of the people of Andros, and helping to restore roads and docks to functioning condition. Ultimately, he took the throne as there were no surviving brothers or other male heirs of his father to take his place.    As the mukarrib of Andros, he maintained the economic recovery of the island was paramount, and using the forges and fires found during the years of exile and warfare, he turned Andros into the foundry of the Bahami Federation, mass producing weapons and armors to a degree never before seen. The weapons and industry of Andros proved to be the foundation of the new Bahami war effort, as the nation began preparing for the final offensives against the Jakonian Empire. Incidentally, the wealth creating by this new economy helped to fuel the Haxhi's family ascent to ever greater wealth and power.   It was extremely reluctantly that he led Andros into warfare once more, taking the offensive against the Jakonians with a massive fleet and army led by the people of Andros and Aljana against Freeport, the last surviving Jakonian bastion. Unfortunately, a Jakonian cannon ended his life and he fell in battle, leaving the throne to his son. He was killed before he could clearly set up a chain of succession, so his children jockeyed for position, until his most warlike child took up the mantle of mukarrib.
