Natara Hmida was a concubine of Mukarrib Besnik Haxhi for much of her life, a permanent resident of his harem. Originally she was born to a noble family in Andros that had owned some land outside of the city. Tragedy in her life led to only her and her father being the surviving members of the house and their estates rapidly diminished. Hoping to obtain new fortune and wealth her father joined the corsair fleets and was involved in the Battle of Freeport, where he was slain, after saving the life of Besnik in the battle.
With the family destroyed, and no male heirs to inherit, Besnik took over the Hmida family's possessions and wealth. He met Natara and immediately fell in love with her beauty. She was brought into the harem, as a way of further legitimizing the takeover of the family's lands and holdings. Although she was not a particularly favored concubine, she did bear the mukarrib one male child and two female children. Her son, Nuri Haxhi proved to be one of the more successful children of the mukarrib and he did his best to make sure she continued to receive good treatment within the harem and visited her frequently. Unfortunately, she died in childbirth when she was impregnated at an advanced age.
