King Khihlud Dissam

Khihlud Dissam was born to a family of privilege in the city of Moultrie in Recfrere. Even from a young age, he admired the warriors of the kingdom and the scars of the aging veterans of the Great War. He volunteered to join the army as soon as he was old enough, forsaking the family's farm and plantations. Although he received his start and education with the foot infantry, he developed a fascination with the high seas, and demonstrated an aptitude for seamanship. He was unable to embrace these talents, however, with the start of the Opella War with the Mersan Union. He was immediately drafted into an infantry regiment.
For five years of war, Khihlud served with distinction in the infantry, a heroic presence on the battlefield. He moved up quickly through the ranks with his accomplishments sowing popularity among the other foot soldiers, reaching the rank of captain. His rapid escalation was forestalled however, in 991 when he was captured by the Mersans and imprisoned in a prisoner of war camp. Although the war ended the following year, he was not released until 994, when the final peace agreement and ceasefire was established, nearly two years after the end of fighting. 
Years of war and imprisonment changed Khihlud, and to the chagrin of some of his comrades, he became an outspoken advocate of peace and stability with the Mersan border. At first this ended up with him being relegated to wayward outposts and commands, but everywhere he went, he proved popular among the ranks. An assassination attempt upon Dissam in 1007 led to outrage and uproar among the soldiers, and nearly a dozen commanders in the army were removed or retired due to suspicion of involvement. He was promoted yet again, ultimately working his way up to general out of his popularity. When the king at the time died, Khihlud began running for the position, at the behest of his men. 
Dissam's popularity led to his landslide victory in the 1037 elections, and his coronation marked a new change for the army of Recfrere. He has focused upon warming the chilled relations with the Mersan Union. He has frequently advocated for the expansion of fortifications along the Populresi border, and believes that they are the primary threat facing both Recfrere and humanity in the years to come.
