Joseph Morris
Bishop Joseph Morris
Born to a family of humble farmers outside of Capcora, Joseph Morris grew up in a modest home, learning to plough the land and make a living from the earth itself. When he was a teenager, however, both of his parents grew sick, threatening to throw the farm into a decline. The timely intervention of a priest of the One Sun brought his parents back from the brink of death and kept his family whole. Upon witnessing the power of the Church, Joseph began agitating to join the clergy and receive an education in the dominant faith of the land.
With the sponsorship of the priest who had healed his parents, Joseph went to study first with the Fellowship of the Palm and then later in the Imperial Cathedral for final lessons in administering to the faithful. He returned to Capcora a grown man, educated in the faith, and assigned as a lower level priest among the clergy in the city. He proved a capable spiritual leader, tending to the various flocks, particularly in the Foreign Quarter, where he built a rapport with those of races other than human. He was acclaimed by higher clergy for his efforts in conversion towards those had once followed the Church of St. Keshush and the more pagan gods of the north.
To most of the people of Capcora, Joseph was a calming presence over the years, providing guidance and wisdom to those who needed it, even as he advanced in age. Before the Warp of Seven, those who knew him knew him as a humble man who represented the best that the Church had to offer. Although he never bucked the typical policy and dogma of the Church, he did occasionally offer healing and support to those who couldn't afford it. When the Warp occurred, the Joseph Morris who emerged from it was a very different man.
The Warp of Seven changed much about Capcora, and Joseph was one of the most heavily affected. When the dust was settled, he was younger in physical age, and appeared more vibrant and youthful than ever before. With this youth came ambition, and he quickly began advocated for a deeper study of the old texts of the faith, and he spouted a knowledge of the Church predating the reforms of the second century. Seeking to shuttle him out of the way, the Hierarch of Capcora offered him a promotion to Bishop, in the distant land of Emeralia. He would serve as the leader of the Church in the New World, an opportunity he eagerly accepted, sailing on the first ship he could book to the open lands of the east.
