Ebenezer Wooding

Chancellor Ebenezer Wooding

Ebenezer Wooding is an aging wizard, and one of the foremost members of the Imperial Congress of Lords. As a child he demonstrated an early aptitude for mathematics and learning, and being part of one of the most revered noble families in Jakonia, he was granted an immediate scholarship to the Imperial University. He was educated firmly in all elements of magic, but excelled the most in the field of evocation. He soon found himself of the leader of House Wooding's levy regiments, providing ample magical fire support upon the battlefield. He served in multiple battles and border conflicts, particularly against Nasite uprisings and riots. He became feared for his ability to turn a riot into a simple blazing inferno.   The acclaim he won on the battlefield served him well upon the death of his father and ascension to being head of the house. Though he had a brother older than him, his brother stepped aside and abdicated authority, out of fear of what a challenge with his younger sibling might entail. Ebenezer was therefore granted the Lordship of the city of Poinciana, one of the wealthiest lordships in the Empire. Ebenezer then threw the intense dedication he had towards his education in magic towards rule over the city of Poinciana. Political rivals were ruthlessly eliminated, criminal organizations were utterly destroyed, and law and order became harshly enforced. Working closely with the Fellowship of the Palm, Poinciana became an incredibly safe and open city, at least for humans.   The alliance with the Church of the One Sun and the Fellowship served Ebenezer well, and with his home front secured, he began to take an active role in Imperial politics. His children were established as ambassadors in Riveraineville, the Mersan Union, and Orrland, offering them seats on the front lines of Jakonia's main diplomatic battles. Through his growing influence, he continued to position himself for a major power grab. His opportunity came in 1020, with the Battle of Spider Bend and the ensuing revolution in Riveraineville. Exploiting the sudden weakness of the Church of the One Sun, he abandoned his erstwhile allies and rallied the various other lords with him, establishing himself as a clear balance against both the Church and the Emperor. Through this deft political maneuvering, he was elected the new Chancellor of the Imperial Congress.   As Chancellor, he has done much to expand the influence of House Wooding, which remains his highest priority. He seems to have little care for the fate of the Empire as a whole, preferring to maintain the current balance of power, rather than expanding Jakonian interests. To that end, he persistently paints the Church of the One Sun as a factional enemy, rallying a more "progressive" base to his banner against those backed by the Church. He has consistently blocked Emperor Allen's spending measures, and he seeks to reinvest much of the Crown's budget into the pockets of himself and the other Lords.
