Department of Urban Infrastructure

The Department of Urban Infrastructure is the Forardi department in charge of maintaining the roads and walls of the largest cities and communities in the kingdom. Their domain is exclusively within the city centers, and some large towns. Over the years they have established legal and economic dominance in Forard's greatest urban centers, and while this gives them ample political sway over the monarchy, they lack the same military might of the other departments. Their greatest nemesis is the Department of Rural Infrastructure, who they frequently compete with for resources.

Structure

The majority of Forardi Departments are organized in a manner of meritocracy, at least on paper. Achieving accomplishments of great renown or excellence allows for advancement through the ranks of Urban Infrastructure. At the top of the organization is the Department Head, and beneath him are Operational Managers who manage the different regions under direct departmental control, and then Dedicated Managers, who handle the delegated administration that follows from there. The Dedicated Managers have a wide variety of ranks and duties, with some specializing in Department military affairs, while others are the mayors or leaders of neighborhoods or community groups. The military arm of the department is arranged into regiments, similar in make to the Department of the Army, but closer in size to the marine regiments of the Department of the Navy.

Public Agenda

Urban Infrastructure stands for the improvement and development of the main city centers of Forard. They advocate for increased urbanization and the expansion of foreign trade, primarily overland. They constantly clash with the Department of Rural Infrastructure, as both require resources, and the head of Urban Infrastructure claims that the priority of the nation should be on protecting and developing main population centers over more remote towns or farms.

Assets

The Department of Urban Infrastructure maintains some of the most lucrative taxation centers in the Kingdom of Forard. Profiting off of numerous urban nobles, merchant caravans, and average citizens, it regularly intakes more funds for the kingdom than any other department. For the most part these funds are supposed to be directed towards the development of city roads and walls, but the gold often makes its way into the pet projects of the department managers, who have become incredibly wealthy. Some of this wealth has been directed into raising regiments to act as primary defenses of key infrastructure locations. They also organize and command the city militias that help defend the cities when attacked.
