The Bureau of Audits

Role and Purpose

Like the Arjei, Auditors both enforce law and clergy. Auditors are a more elite form of arje, carrying more authority and focusing on preventing and punishing particularly heinous crimes against the Empire and the Devjat. Auditors have few priestly duties, though they do serve as the public face of the Order of Records whenever anouncements are made. Notably, while the Order of Records is responsible for distributing and reclaiming citizenship coins and errant souls, the Auditors are responsible for storing the captured souls and ensuring that they are properly sent to Kyate'i Ashtimnai Taos.

Ranks and Organization

At the bottom are the auditors aspirant, all auditors will be given a domain if they do not have one already.

Still a part rank and file auditors are the High Auditors. To become a high auditor, an aspirant must become the apprentice of another high auditor for one year. When becoming a high auditor, the auditor chooses which category of the Bureau to join. High auditors are granted a second domain. The category chosen will determine which domain they are given.

Above the high auditors stand the Grand Auditors, of which there is one per zone. Grand Auditors are appointed by the Administrator.

At the top, the Bureau is managed by the Administrator, who is appointed by the Tavmahar. There is one administrator per Tavmahar, thus there is one administrator per sector.

Special Positions

Each zone has a Keeper, who protects and guards the treasury and armory, acting as a quartermaster. Keepers have many charges that can only be superceded on the authority of the Administrator, even Grand Auditors cannot force them to hand out some of the more dangerous artifacts under lock and key. Keepers are chosen by the Administrator and must be at least High Auditors.

The Categories of the Bureau

Symbolic of the three heads of the Devmahar, there are three categories within the Bureau.

The first category, Violet, are trained for direct combat. This category is the largest and most often seen by the public.

The second category, Gold, are trained for management and investigation. They are taught to lead teams of auditors, and often work as handlers for Emerald auditors. Grand auditors and adminsitrators tend to be Gold due to the relevant skillset and experience.

The third category, Emerald, are trained in the arts of stealth, subterfuge, and sabotage. They act as spies and counterspies and do extensive undercover work. Emerald auditors are unique in the aspect that they are sometimes sent outside of the country.

Joining the Bureau

To become an auditor, the first step is aquiring a domain. Because domains are restricted in Kyawas, this means that most auditors served in the military, or were an arje or guardian prior to joining the Bureau. The exception to this rule is internal recruiting from within the Order of Records. People with relevant skills and devotion are sometimes recruited from within the Order of Records.

Uniform and Gear

Uniforms, armor, and other gear are all provided by the Bureau at no personal cost to the auditor. The Bureau receives ample funding and buys high quality gear. Runewoven gear is less common, but still provided by the Bureau, mostly to higher ranked officials.

Parade Dress

An auditor's official uniform is a formal looking set of dark grey coats and pants and black boots. The category of the auditor is displayed using simple colored epaulletes, while the rank is displayed by a symbol on the epaulletes. The flag of Kyawas is embroidered over the right breast.

Combat Gear

When expecting combat or otherwise expecting danger or showing force, auditors equip themselves with a lightweight variant of vsatham armor designed for mobility runewoven to be summonable. Standard equipment also includes a pistol, a dirk, a runewoven shortspear, and a shield bracer. The pistol comes with three runewoven bullets of each of the following types: wraith, lockdown, and sleeper.

The shortspear is of a particular style known as a dvorhim which has a thin spearhead with long barbs along the base of the spearhead. Dvorhim are runewoven to be summonable and prevent channeling for those it impales. The runewoven properties of a dvorhim spear only work for a single individual and are custom made for each auditor. It is extremely expensive and the weaves used to produce it are under such secrecy that they hunt down any non-auditors who would touch or possess a dvhorim.

The dvorhim is the auditors symbol of authority and membership, more so than even their citizenship token. Receiving a dvorhim is the sign of full membership for auditors and a great ceremony has been developed around its creation and bestowal.
