Sanctification Spell in Emala | World Anvil

Sanctification

Required Components to Create

A runic knot with a radius of 10m or less must be created around the area to be sanctified, created of a two-worlds material such as riftstone or bronze (worth ~140 sv).

Effect

Upon activation, the air seems to still within the area and everywhere is suffused with a soft violet light without a seeming source, banishing all shadows. These effects only last a few seconds before fading. The runic circle becomes a threshold hostile to spirits, and to a lesser degree, incorporeal beings. Spirits of intensity 2 and less cannot cross the threshold. incorporeal beings and higher intensity spirits can cross, but take 1d6+2 damage to all hit locations should they cross the threshold. Anyone within the threshold can choose to deactivate or reactivate the threshold at will.

This effect applies regardless of which side of the threshold the being is trying to cross from, making it effective as a method of trapping spirits as well.

Uses in the World

The Arjei provide sanctification as a service to the citizens of Kyawas. Outside of Kyawas the spell is widely used, especially among the Vasri. In times past spirit parasites were a common threat and sanctification was adopted as preventitive measures against such threats in the future. When summoning spirits this spell is almost always used to avoid the spirit escaping and wreaking havoc before binding terms are struck.

This weave was also the base for other variants used to create Soul Traps and Soul Vaults which are also widely used.
