The First Vision
The following excerpt was taken from Ira Mustea's most influential work, The Infinite Wisdoms. In it she retells numerous visions as described to her by seers whom she interviewed between 873 AR - 885 AR. This specific excerpt is one of the few that she did not hear herself, but is one of the most famous visions to have been had by a seer for it was seen by the First Prophet and would pave the way for the formation of the Fractal Order.
The First Vision
A man in splendid and noble robes strolled up to the open window. The white and red attire seeming to dance and glide through the air, perfectly accenting his movements. Staring out he could see the faint shimmer of the barrier holding steadily against their unending attacks. Dark, looming figures could be seen off in the distance, as tall as the sky was high. His face was hard, but exhaustion peeked from behind his amber colored eyes. “How long has it been?” He thought to himself, “A millennia? How much longer will we have to hold out for?” Suddenly a door behind him bursts open as a woman moves through the doorway, gliding over to him, feet raised gently above the ground. She wore an elegant white dress, accented with a burnt orange belt tied around her waist, held by a broach that appeared to be flower with eight petals, seven of which were deep shades of blue, while the eighth appeared to almost looked decayed. “It is time.” She said as she approached the man with ease despite her apparent blindness, eyes as white as her dress. “Any moment now, but only for a moment, whatever you have to say, now’s the chance. Our only chance.” “Now?” He asked sharply, “You told me it could be several millennia, but now?” “How long has it been?” He thought again. “I did.” She replied simply, “but I also told you it could come much sooner. I told you it is becoming harder to predict certain things, the Legacy, it is beginning to unravel. I do not think we could even last a single millennium at this rate. We might not have another chance.” The man let out a single sigh before nodding to her. “So then, what? Just... here?” Nodding, she replied, “Yes, here, now. They will see. I do not know who will see, but someone will. What will happen will be up to them.” Sighing again the man turned to look back outside, speaking in a slow and measured tone, “I never thought it would end like this. Then again, I never thought we could get this far in the first place. Our time, the time of the Divines is coming to an end. But humanity will continue in a way that only you will know. You must carry on our legacy; it will be the only hope; it will be your only hope for if they return…all will be lost. Long ago, before, in our Kingdom there was peace. There can be peace once again, we saw it, if only for a moment. As we glimpsed into the end of all things, we saw a light, a light held alive by the Infinite Wisdoms known to be true by all the Divine. Our fate, however, was set, no matter what path we looked down. Yours however… even still it appears malleable, ever changing, infinite possibilities. A spark in the dark night.” The words carried, impossibly echoing across the battered landscape outside. As the man continued to speak, seemingly to no one, he stared out in the distance, at the faint shimmer in the sky. With each attack the barrier held firm, sending ripples across the sky. Ripples that seemed to carry across his bright amber eyes. Turning from the window the man began to draw a pattern in the air in front of him. Light emitting from his finger followed his path. Soon a strange shape began to take form, full of interwoven and intricate fractal shapes that seemed to go on forever. “I give you this, my child, the burden of knowledge. To know what has happened, to know what could happen. You, your people, still have a chance. We have held out as long as we could, but we can risk no further damage; for the longer we hold, the dimmer your light becomes.” As he finished drawing the shape it seemed to shimmer in the air for a moment before fading away to mist. “What happens now, is up to you. I wish there was more time, I wish I could be of more help, but…” glancing over to the women he pauses, seemingly taking in the moment, letting it stretch to infinity before continuing, sadness in his eyes, “There is not. I... cannot.” Speaking these words his posture seemed to change, as if this is the first time he has realized the truth behind his own words. “So, go now, Prophet of the Divine, and spread our word and share the wisdom of the Fractal Unity with your kin. For it will be the one who is the first to experience this moment of truth that will guide the rest of humanity back to its Kingdom and place among the Divine. Just as I did so very long ago.”
