Keeper of Legends

In Amoan culture, a Keeper of Legends is a professional storyteller, oral historian, and genealogist employed by a patron (such as a monarch or noble) to commemorate one or more of the patron's ancestors, praise the patron's own activities or entertain the masses with legendary tales of old. By entertaining the masses while sporting their patron's house colours, they do a great job of promoting the noble or monarch they work for as cultured, generous, and a lover of the arts. Outside of the The Republic of Amoa those with similar professions are often called storytellers or minstrels.    Keepers of Legends are a specific subsection within the bard profession. Their stories tend to involve lengthy epic tales, historical accounts, and dramatic readings of plays. Their job is strictly non-musical so as not to encroach on the other bardic colleges and their livelihoods. They are a crucial part of Amoan culture and serve as morale boosters, newsmen, and a joining force for the Republic's thinly spread powers.    Those who follow this profession spend their days wandering the countryside from Twin Peaks in the south to the frontier village of Trastevere in the north. Locals are happy to have them and often ask for news of the outside world. In exchange for stories and news, Keepers of Legends are expected to receive free accommodation and food as well as a small fee for their services, just enough to make it to the next closest town. To keep legends is a dangerous job due to the incredible amount of time spent on the roads in and around The Eld, so locals are glad to pay them lest their services stop coming into town. This can be a blessing and a curse because if the town is hard on gold, they may be forced to pay the fees despite not having extra income to spend on such luxuries.
