History
The Shikari were developed by Liang Sogo who initially created four prototypes by subjecting a handful of orphan children to intense alchemical process and exposing them to mutagenic compounds. He used these prototypes to successfully defend the town of Shinsu from a rampaging monstrosity. Following this success, he was tasked by the Arcanum Mechanica to create an entire platoon of monster hunting warriors.
The tower of Din Kwalaan (commonly referred to as the Bestiary) was built and has served as the Shikari's training grounds and the laboratory where they are created. There have been three generations of hunters following Sogo's success at Sinju. The prototype hunters were retired shortly after their creation, noted as being unstable compared to their successors.
First Generation (471 - 510):
Developed shortly after the construction of Din Kwalaan, this generation of hunters were created using mutagens extracted from natural born lycanthropes. Werebear mutagens were initially used as the base for the first generation but carried an exceptionally high mortality rate among candidates. Weretiger mutagens proved more successful, moving the mortality rate among candidates from 93% down to 68%. As such, the vast majority of surviving first generation hunters carry weretiger characteristics.
Second Generation (511 - 533):
In response to the growing criticism of the low survival rate and excruciatingly resource intensive process of creating first generation hunters, a new production process was put into development. These hunters used werewolf mutagens as their base which resulted in a much lower mortality rate of about 9% of candidates. It also allowed much older candidates to be selected for the process, instead of exclusively using children.
Third Generation (533 - ???)
Dissatisfied with the drop in performance between the first and second generation, Sogo secretly began work on a successor that would utilize incredibly rare Empyrean mutagens. The initial prototypes for this generation still used werewolf lycanthrope as their basis, but the finalized iterations were based off mutagens harvested from the third generation prototypes. The final product was a hulking humanoid figure, much more powerful on average than both prior iterations, that could follow and understand basic commands.
