Elf

Elves are an ancient and noble people with an affinity for magic. Elven society has an unwavering respect for nature, placing great imporance on maintaining the natural beauty of their surroundings. Elves are also well known for their artistic endeavors: ballads, poetry, song, and dance.

Physical Characteristics

Elves are lithe and athletic, standing about 5 to 6 feet and typically weighing 80 to 140 pounds. Elven women and men are similar in size and shape, with graceful and svelte figures. Elves have no facial or body hair, and the presence of such features usually betrays some human ancestry. Elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans but are considered adolescent until about 150 years of age and live to be nearly 1,000 years old.

Homelands

Outside the elven nation of Syldaar, which is homeland to nearly half of all elves, most elves live in small enclaves or well-hidden villages in the wilderness.   Elves encountered in other lands tend to fair well as wandering minstrels, famous artisans, or well respected scholars. Human nobles often compete to secure the services of an elven advisor or instructor for their children.

Names

Elven first names are usually unique creations, seeking to create a unique identity independent of other family members. Elven family names are combinations of regular Elven words, which some elves will translate into Common while living in human lands.

Playing an Elf

As an elf, you have the following traits:   Size. Your size is Medium.   Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.   Fae Ancestry. You have Advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition on yourself.   Trance. You do not fall Unconscious while sleeping. Instead, you enter a trancelike state where you remain aware of your surroundings, can speak normally, and can also move, but your Speed is halved and you still can't take actions or reactions, or maintain concentration. You can end this trancelike sleep at any time during your turn.   Ethnic Traits. Choose one of the following elven ethnicities, you gain its associated traits:

Intelligence (Society)

  DC 10: Syldaar is the greatest nation of the elves. Numerous other elven enclaves and tribes are scattered throughout Eltár.   DC 15: The elves once controlled much of the western hemisphere of Eltár. They enslaved much of the population of modern day Qoyne before The Great Withdrawal.   Elves in the eastern hemisphere of Eltár were defeated the dwarven clans of modern day Naivia and forced underground leading to the birth of the Gloom Elves.   DC 20: The more strongly traditional Bright Elves of Syldaar tend to have low opinions of other species, and even look down on other elven ethnicities.   DC 25: Elves first appeared on the planet of Faedár over a hundred thousand years ago. Their overuse of dangerous magic eventually left their home planet in an unlivable state, forcing them to migrate to Eltár roughly twenty-thousand years ago.  

Intelligence (Religion)

  DC 12: Elves worship Calenel above all others.   DC 15: Elven myth holds that it was Calenel's guidance that led the elves from their dying world and brought them to Eltár.
