Astral Plane
The Astral Plane, also known as the Astral Sea, is one of the planes of existence.
Geography
The Astral Plane is a realm beyond the inner planes, it is a massive silver expanse dotted by countless small shards of land, scattered larger islands, and planar warps leading to the inner and outer planes. At the far edges of the Astral Plane, the gods reside in their dominions, help beyond the planes by the divine gate.
This vast expanse is filled with vast clouds of a luminous silver-grey substance that is not fully mist and not fully liquid. Thousands of stars glitter in the distance, as well as the colored veils of the astral dominions, if a traveler is close enough to see them. Oen sea between the drifting clouds of astral mist provide hundreds of miles of visibility. Inside even the densest astral mist, a traveler can see objects several miles away with ease, since the wispy clouds of the Astral Sea don't impede vision as much as clouds on Eltar do.
Ecosystem Cycles
While time passes normally in the Astral Plane, its effect on creatures and objects residing there is dramatically reduced. The effects of time are such that one year spent on the Astral Plane would feel like one hour on the material plane. As such, creatures on the Astral Plane don't visibly age or suffer from hunger or thirst. The duration of magical spells, items, and potions is not affected by this. Creatures also take an exceptionally long time to heal naturally, making recovering from wounds naturally nearly impossible:
Long and Short Rests can not be used to recover hit points, only spells. In addition, hit points can only be regained by spells or other magical effects such as potions or items.
Localized Phenomena
The Astral Sea is not wet or cold; a cool tingle on the skin is the only sensation a traveler gets. Creatures that breathe do so without trouble. Flying creatures can fly through the astral stuff as if it were air, and natural swimmers can swim through it as if it were water. Other creatures can move slowly through the Astral Sea by sheer willpower (they have a flying
speed equal to 3 times their Intelligence score).
